i have a 91 civic with a b18a1 motor in it. my question is whats the biggest nitrous shot i can put on my motor ? my setup is a b18a1 block with b18b1 head. crower 402-a cams, crower valvesprings and retainers, blox intake manifold, venom fuel rail, b&m fuel pressure regulator, jdm 4-1 header with 2.5" collector, full 2.25" exhaust, testpipe, cold air intake, b16 tranny, lightweight flywheel, act clutch, zex dry nitrous kit (75 shot). my question is can i run a 100 shot as long as i retard the timing sufficently ? what would i retard it to ? any help would be appreciated.

thats the point im trying to find someone who has experienced it already. my car runs fine with 75 shot, i just want to go bigger.
You want to retard the timing 2 degrees for every 50 shot. And your motor sounds like it should handle a 100 shot. But don't go spraying every 5 seconds. Also if your gonna run a 100 shot at the track spend a few extra bucks and pump some race gas just to be on the safe side.
A good head gasket is important.... you want that head on that block like a stain on a mattress.
good luck and dont hurt yourself.

To my knowledge, the amount of nitrous your engine can withstand is based a lot on how well it's tuned but it also has a lot to do with internals(obviously). From what I've heard you can blow up an engine easily from just a 50hp shot if it's out of tune so be careful but I'm sure you know that and good luck.
On any stock motor you should just run a compression test. If it looks good then you should be ok with a 50 shot. But it all comes down to moderation. If you spray time after time after time then your gonna see some parts flying. But his motor has some internal mods and it should hold a bigger size shot for a while. Most detonation occurs when there is a fuel drop in the mixture. If you dont lean out then you should be ok.
its probably not a very good idea to try 100 dry shot unless you have an upgraded fuel system (or two) and a system like hondata to tell your motor to compensate fuel for the extra air. a computer can only add so much more fuel on its own. a wet kit is much better (imo) as you can 1. use higher shots and 2. its safer if you know what youre doing. correct, even a 50 shot of nitrous can potentially hurt your motor if you just slap it on and there is no tuning involved. my father and i have run 250 shot of nitrous through a STOCK jetta vr6 motor. but we had a msd ignition to retard timing, and a wideband o2 sensor to moniter the afr. all in all, if you are going to try a 100 shot dry, get a good fuel pump (if you havent already) and work your way up to it. do 75 then check your plugs. if there is not detination and your not lean, put in 80. run it and stop and check your plugs again. if you start to lean out, add more fuel. if there is detination, pull timing. if youve pulled all the timing you can and you still get detination, go back a step ans leave it there.

right now i run race gas, and i do have a walbro 255 fuel pump that im about to install. i have a 75 on it right now and the car does fine i was just trying to get a little more out of it.
well whatever you do, always, always, always check your plugs. widebands dint work with nitrous, they only give you a general idea. the nitrogen throws off the o2 sensor. but your plugs cant lie, they are your eyes to whats going on in your engine. good luck! hope it goes well!
IMO, I wouldnt run a zex dry setup with a 100 shot - I feel that the stock injectors will have a problem supplying the fuel needed for it - Nitrous systems need a high amount of fuel flow, and a dry system just raises fuel pressure to richen the mixture , which has its limits. I would go to a single wet fogger at least. Personally, I run a wet setup on my mildly built LS , and havent had any problems. Check out the "official nitrous thread" in the forced induction thread. Lots of good info there.
