Default QUestion about ITR resonator...

i have a spoon airfilter with the stock box and intake but i took off the resonator. am i losing hp or does it even make a difference whether it's on or not? i met someobyd that had the same set up but they made a custom pipe coming off the bottom of the stock airbox. does something like that help too?

I dyno'd my 2000 R and then my 98 R and they both lost 3-6 hp taking the resonator out. I used as custom intake setup off the bottom of the airbox and it lost power over the stock resonator box as well. Basically if you don't ante up for the AEM or Icebox you aren't doing yourself any good.

There is a dyno chart shwoing this in an old thread.

If you have removed the resonator I would cut of the black tube that connected to the airbox and re-attach it so you are pulling air from near the stock location (but without that resonator)...

AGREED WITH BOTH OF THE ABOVE...

Comptech icebox Obviously My choice...

AEM/CAI been there did that.

Or Brett's DIY: http://www.geocities.com/bretq/DIY_Icebox_CAI.html

Good luck,

A.

I had one of the DIY Iceboxes on my car for a while. The butt dyno seemed to feel a better midrgange pull over stock and nice smooth VTEC crossover. I liked it a lot, power felt better over stock and it sounded really sweet too. I went back to stock for the time being untill I decide to go turbo.
Anybody want to buy this for $35 shipped?

you didn't reset your ecu b/w the dyno runs, i have seen dyno charts of a prelude and accord gaining more hp/torque by removing the resonator, and they both had resetted ECU's. the resonator does nothing but reduce noise.

I reset it on the 2000 and lost 3 hp and did not reset it on the 98 and lost 6. Resetting would change fuel mapps but I seriously doubt resetting the ECU would have shown a power gain. The ECU on the 98 had just been reset for the K&N Drop in test. Problem is in an R removing the resonatpor make the air pick up in a warm air area.

yup, that's what I use, very much worth it for $10 in materials and $35 for the K&N filter. sound is only a touch louder than stock, and only at WOT.
