Default Free flow air system

What about the "air-intake" system used in racing itr's - getting air through the position where normaly one of the lights fits in? I think it's a perfect position for getting cold air!!!

Does anyone know how that system is build up?

My friend does something similar. He cut out his high beam light and ran a funnel connected to his stock intake.

Someone on this board did the similar. He cut his headlight in two and removed the high beam. And a pipe is going straight into his stock airbox.....

This was discussed a LONG LONG (before the search goes back to) ago.

The headlight is a place of low pressure and therefore isn't all that great of an intake area. It was even pointed out that at the right speed the air travelling across the hole can cause a vacuum type flow and pull air away.

From the same study they showed that farther down towards the middle of the bumper (top to bottom) was a better place to pull air.

This was all discussed here and most vtests were quoted from T.O.O Board where Larry from endyn did the testing.

There was a good thread on this last year. The guy that did it (don't know if he's still around) used a foam filter, and I can still here his comment "It's Cleanable! ". It's was a really good install; maybe he will chime in on this thread and hopefully put up the good pics that he had.

-B Who thinks this is great for track, but not for a DD.

Here is my "ram air" setup. It is a little bit more "streetable" since you are not eliminating one of the headlights. I primarily use it on the track, but I have used it on the street a few time. It connects to my DIY "Icebox" ( http://www.geocities.com/bretq/DIY_Icebox_CAI.html ) and it takes about 5-10 minutes to switch the stock turn signal lense with the "ram air" turn signal duct. Here are a few pictures:

How did you hollow the turn signal?

I`m using a ram air system made if carbon.
A carbon funnel in the bumper leading directly to a custom made carbon airbox.. soon. Still waiting for the parts... There should be nothing better.

I used a band saw to remove the lense cover from the front bulb and to cut off the bulb socket from the back of the turn signal .

The funnel is too small.... use a funnel located in the bumper.

Connecting to the bumper would be easier... the problem will be:
i wanna go directly to the throttle body, without using the air filter for track racing and i wonder if it's possible to do that without damaging the motor... for sure it's the best performance gain!!!
