bad squeaking when i steer
So last fall i got my 1993 honda civic hb (no power steering) and about after a month of having it i noticed squeaking when i would steer. A local shop replaced one of the ball joint covers and said that would do it. It was fine for a while but slowly started squeaking again, now whenever i turn the steering wheel at all its squeaks really badly and sounds like its coming from both sides. I cant find the source of the problem any ideas? thanks.

Is the noise only noticeable when you steer? A squeaking noise sounds like a serpentine belt going bad. Check the rack and pinion and cv joints, however, the cv joints will make a creaking sound but it's still worth checking.

As far as I know, we dont have serpintine belts? no PS means no belt. Its your rack thats squeaking.
jack the car up with the front tires off the ground, turn the wheel, you will hear the squeak, you need to lube the rack.

All car's have serpentine belts. The old muscle cars used one belt to operate multiple systems where as new cars use separate belts. Your alternator is powered by a serpentine belt, it might be squeaking. If you had, power steering and/or air conditioning they would be powered by the serpentine belts.
