Default b18b? or b20b? with my b16a head? help me make the best choice!

i had a stroke of good luck this week! ive been getting ready to put my lsvtec together (2000 b18b block)(92 b16a head) got all my parts ready type r timing belt, water pump, oil pump,ect..ect..Anyway a friend had a 96 b20b longblock sitting in his garage for a year and just wanted to get rid of it. He sold it to me for only $100 bucks!!!!!!!!! So should i stick with the 2000 b18b block?? or should i go with the 96 b20b block ????? there both just sitting there screaming at me "put ME in! put ME in!!!" i just cant choose based on internet serching, so im hoping experience can help me. So chime in please with all the info on which block would be better, Ive heard b20 is more power but b18 is higher compression. WHICH IS BETTER???????? help H-t and thanx for all info!

umm obviously b20 wins on displacement, but i dont know what internals are best, i mean if you are going with aftermarket internals, the only difference is displacement, but if not check the compressions and its reall probly just a matter of opinion assuming the b18 has a little bit better compression or if you dont want the extra displacement... just giving some input

2 years is a long time to be sitting around, and the 2000 ls motor sounds good to me like look at it this way you can have a back up motor in the b20 clean it up and get some arp rod bolts for it, (same you should do for the ls), and get a new oil pump for that b20 and you should be fine

you'll be fine with just arp head and rod bolts as long as you don't rev it high a bunch which kind of defeats the purpose of motor swaps. i say go ls because it was designed to be revved high. to do a reliable crvtec, you basically need a built bottom end....forged rods, pistons and resleeved block. the cylinder walls on the b20 are thin as **** and crack under stress, most people dont even know their **** is cracked.....buy the golden eagle vtec conversion kit, arp rod and head bolts, slap the b16 head on the ls and enjoy

like stated already.. id use the LS block.. and build the B20.. get some rods and pistons in there.. get it cleaned/hot tanked honed... fresh motor.. then when its done slap that vtec head on there.. you dont need to resleeve the block.. theyre not thin as ****.. using the search will reveal a lot of information..

i would put the lsvtec in for now and while the b20 is there....have it cleaned and rebuild the bottom end with forged internals, then get it resleeved and build a turbo motor with like 400hp...because lets face it all motor with get boring after a while.

n/a isnt boring, but everyone has their own opinions, but regardless i dont know where you ^ get ur info about b20's, we all know they arent great for boost due to their thin cylinder walls but given a n/a setup with a good tune would be cake, and also ls, and b20's werent made to rev high thats why you go with the arp rod, and head bolts to take precautionary measures

but all in all b20 over ls, so take ur time build the b20, and smash on the ls

boosted the ls and work hard on b20 ^^ I plan to go route with b20 vtec until I can afford to buy new resleeve and such other parts.

For NA, go B20. If you plan on boosting it, keep the B18 and build that. Boost is really hard on the B20 monosleeve. I know a guy with a B20/v that's going on 3 race seasons @275whp. NA.
