Default brake noise

Ok, here is the deal... everytime after I put my car in reverse and use the brakes, my brakes make a loud pop noise the first time I use them in drive.
It only happens the first time after using the brakes in reverse, but it happens every time.
I have a 97 btw.

Has anyone else had this problem??? What the hell is it?

Thanks
Brian

Did you get some cheap brake pads? Maybe when the person installed it did not fit it in correctly. Also, it might not be your brake pads... might be a bushing or something

if you have drums check the adjustors and make sure there are no broken springs

the car is an auto and the pop happens the first time i brake in reverse, then the first time I brake in drive.

It sounds like it is coming from the front... almost like the calipers are being moved then popped back into place.

Is it a pop or a click? The brakes will have a slight yet noticable click to them occasionally.

This may sound wierd, but as a last resort measure, check the splines on your hub. This sounds odd, but if a tooth has been stripped somehow, then it would allow the axle to jump, and it would make such a noise. I don't know why I thought of this, and I have no evidence to back this up, but as I said, if you cant figure it out, it is at least worth a check.

I would say it is a pop rather than a click... it is pretty loud.

It is just the pads moving up or down in the mounting bracket- it is normal- some aftermarket pads will make it more noticeable.

You are sure?
Is there anything I can do about it, or is it better to just leave it alone?

Thanks

Nothing you can do about it. If you want to verify that this is the noise you can take some paper and put it on the top and bottom edges of the pads and the noise should improve. It won't last though as the paper will get pounded and fall apart.
