Head to turbo manifold bolt back out?
I just noticed today that the top right nut on my head to turbo manifold has disappear? the stud is sitting there but somehow the nut has back out and fallen off.
So i went and grab another nut and tighten it back no big deal, as i got it hand tighten. I went to put a 12mm socket on it and give it a turn, snap it broke right off.
Now i didnt even get to tighten it, this is right after i hand tighten it and proceed to tighten it with a wrench.
As it break flush with the manifold, i would have to take the turbo manifold off and back the stud out with a vise grip probably but what i wanted to know is how does this back out?
I've seen manifold to turbo bolt back out but from the head to the turbo manifold, this is the first time i have this problem. It seem like the stud was already weaken that why when i put a new nut on it just snap?

Hmm that interesting, how does teflon tape help with keeping it from backing out? teflon is somewhat of a sealant.
I wasnt really **** that it back out but i was pissed when i put a new nut on and didnt even tighten it or anything and the stud snapped

Just put a dab of blue loctite on the nut. Or use some split washers to keep tension on the nut from backing out. Or if you want to get really fancy, you can always safety wire all of the nuts together. Then they will never back out for sure.

seriously, they work so well and it seems nobody knows about them... we stumbled on them working on german cars, one of the german OEMS uses them iirc...

Yes and no. If your lucky you can use them again. They do have a slit in the top of the nut that expands when the nut is threaded onto the stud. I forgot all about copper nuts. Those things work awsome. Also too, don't use anti-seize! They make a better one that has Nickel in the mix and its better suited for stainless studs and it has a greater heat range. I have installed a lot of turbo kits on the 350Z, and one of the kits comes with copper nuts. Well we used the regular anti-seize on the studs and wow what a mistake that was. Found out about the Nickel stuff and never had a problem since. I think the regular anti-seize has a heat range up to 1800 degrees F, where as the Nickel has a heat range up to 2800 degrees F. Don't quote me on the exact ranges. Hope this helps you out. Also too, the Nickel anti-seize is pretty pricey.

generally yeah but that goes for any locking nut

my current set of copper nuts has come on and off about 3 times now, ive had to replace 2 of them cause they round off easily if your tool isent on them all the way... but yeah they still hold...
