Oil Question
Hi I have a 95 del sol vtec (b16a3) I am switching to synthetic oil royal purple 5w 30.. is it good if I change the oil every 8000k but switch the oil filter every 4k ? by the way my car has 137k on it.

me personally, i change the filter when i change the oil.

when my civic (JDM B16A) was my DD, i changed the oil every 3K along with the filter. though it was conventional oil, i think i would probably do the same, i mean damn, i would change my tranny fluid every 6K or 6 months.
now that it's my weekend car and i seldomly drive it once a week, i have stretch the oil change to about 6 months and tranny to once a year.
i know the synthetic oils can go up longer and newer motor can too, but i'm not sure about waiting to 8K. maybe 4K-5K for both?

Ya I guess I am gonna switch to every 5k now. That would be fine right ? When I used the regular oil I changed it every 3k.

RP is a waste of money. Its good but not any better than others. and if you drive aggressively change your oil every 3-4k miles with synthetic. Its called preventative maintenance. all the money you save not buying RP you can spend on more frequent oil changes with Syntec, for example.

i love amsoil, i dont tihnk ill run any other oil from now on. i use a Pureone filter, and i got between 4500, and 5000 on this change and my oil is still clean. also with amsoil, if your really worried about running your oil for high mileage, they have an oil analys service and will send you a detailed report of how dirty your oil is, if you have any excess metel or any other things that can be harmful to your motor.

Quaker State Q Horsepower is an amazing oil. It used to be Advanced Engine I believe.
Even after 3000 miles of "spirited" and regular driving, the oil hardly ever gets darker than it does when it's brand new. And it's not terribly expensive.

Instead of blowing 50 bucks on a oil and filter combo that lasts 3896t75234863 miles, why not just run normal oil and a OEM filter and change it every 3,000 miles. I'll live by that till the day I die

i dont use my oil just because i get extended drain times, but after the point when conventional oil is dirty and broke down, and causing wear, my oil is still clean and has the same lubrication proporties. so in the long run, im saving on wear, and i actually save money running synthetic, i get 1 change for synthetic, to 2 i would get out of conventional for 10 dollers a change more. ill find that i'll run into the 6 month time line, verse the miles. i also burn off less oil in a x amout of miles that i would have to add a quart of conventional, i dont need to add any. and im the type that checks every time i fill my car up.

at 137k. i would go to 10w 30. 5w30 is the base weight.. i'd go thicker than 5w30 since the motor got that much mileage. your motor is juss gonna eat that oil quick. im a lube tech and i see alot of peaople still putting 5w30 on high milage cars. i say 10w30. honda manufacture recomend that u should change oil ever 4,500 miles, wit filter. wit synthetic, i wouldnt push more than six. i say change it every 6, wit filter. i use mobile 1 synthtic, its great. i change oil every 4000 miles. i 8k is way to long for an oil change. there are oil companies that state their oil last 10k 50k. I think its bull.. changing oil 3k-4k is the best way to go. if regular oil is being used. i recommend every 3k. dont use regular pennzoil btw. they suck
