Default a question for you audio gurus about CROSSOVERS. please help!

ok, i have a couple passive crossovers from my last car and was wondering if i can use those? i just bought some clarion srs1623's and thought they would come w/ a crossover unit. but found out they're inline w/o the seperate crossover unit. so what does this mean? is this built into the speakers or something? also, would i be able to use my old passive crossovers with the new speakers i got? and can someone clarify y crossovers are called crossovers? thanx.

thanx for the info. so does this mean that, if i use my older crossovers, this can potentially damage my new set of speakers? thanx
