Hi,
I've got a 1996 accord EX 2.2 Vtec F22B1. recently did an engine swap to same type with less miles. The issue i'm having is during around the 5 1/4 to 5 1/2 RPM spot. It will not move past that spot. my redline is at 6 1/4 so i'm a little confused. it seems to stumble right after the 5k spot. happens through all gears.
Fuel pressure is normal
Oil pressure is normal
new CAP AND ROTOR (stock), new wires, new spark plugs are gapped normal
new injectors(venom) and new fuel rail w/ adjustable regulator (AEM)
i can't figure it out for the life of me.
it feels like the engine wants to go, but it doesn't. it just kind of bucks at 5k. Throughout the entire rpm range until then is fine and smooth. any suggestions? Also this happens whether i'm in gear or not.

BUMP and update. it seems to be backfiring when i get it up there. forgot to mention that.
also turns out that at startup i can rev it all the way it's as it warms up and when it has a load it does what its doing. any ideas?

something in the vtec system might not be engaging...that would cause that to happen...are you throwing a CEL

i brought it to the stealership, they said that the timing was incorrect and they couldn't fix it due to my skunk 2 cam gear. ?? riiiiiiight. so anyways, i'm out 600$ for that and they said they would make it the same or a little better....it's F-ing worse! i can only rev til about 4 1/2k rpms now. nobody has any ideas? it's bogging really bad after that point. i can't go any further. please please please help i need to get this car up to par.

If you can only rev it to 4.5k rpm, then its probably running in safe mode, meaning your ECU isnt allowing it to rev higher because something is messed up and the ECU is trying to prevent you from breaking something.
Just seeing that it back fires, that would indicate a lean condition, meaning that you are starving of fuel at the higher rpms. I know fuel pressure is fine, but something could be glogged (fuel filter, pump filter, lines, injectors, etc) and you wont get enough flow...
How about you remove the cam gear and put it back to stock timing to eliminate that as the possibe problem. Check entire fuel system, and it may be worth the time to pull the gage cluster and test the check engine light bulb. Does it never come on? It should glow for a second or two every time you start the car while it does a self check. Better yet, take it to Autozone and have them scan it since its OBD2.

Funny I had a 94 accord coupe DX that would rev past 5k either never did find out what was wrong with it. Drove me crazy but, oh well ending letting my brother use my car and he totaled it....:-(
You might also try cleaning the EGR ports in your car for the stumbling on accelration more noticeable automatics...Might fail NOx test or show low flow from EGR in the computer good luck
