Rear Caliper Piston/Rubber Boot
Background:
Near the end of winter (like a month or two ago) I would notice that the rear driver side brake was dragging bad when I went to work in the mornings. It was especially bad if I used the parking brake.
I opened everything up this week and found that the the piston (while intially very stiff, so assuming rust) was able to retract back in. I then noticed the rubber boot around the piston didn't look good.
Question:
Is this repairable? Or is it easier just to get a new caliper and call it a day? I'm just not in the mood to chase down stupid problems like this much anymore so I'd like to get a fix that will work the first time.
Picture of the caliper:
- I sprayed a bunch of penetrating lube on it so free it up.

of course it would be easier to just replace the caliper.
depending on your budget rebuilding/reconditioning the caliper would be a lot cheaper.

i thoughts exactly. but since i've never re-build a caliper i say just replace it.

Yea I looked up a caliper and it looks like a "RMD" (I assumed re-manufactured oem one from Acura) is ~$130. New is ~$230. So I'm guessing my price would be around 200.
I wouldn't mind learning how to rebuild one....more for the knowledge than to save a couple bucks. Has anyone ever done this here? Any input on level of difficulty and quality of final product?
EDIT: For future readers, I found the answer to my question:

Write Up (Click here) <--Same concept for the rears

its not that bad, you pretty much just take out the piston and replace the seal. thats the front ones anyway, rears are more complex cause of the parking brake. but just set a good day away and youll get it done.
i have the same problem. except my caliper seem to be working just fine but the piston boot is torn. friends told me it prevent dirt from getting in so i bought a new piston boot at the dealer.
do you have to take out the piston itself in order to replace just the boot?
