Trying to Get Rid Of Antenna on My 1992 Prelude?!?!?!?
made a thread a while ago about replacing the stock antenna on my 92 prelude. it looks horrible and makes it look like a RC car. would an "autoloc hidden antenna" work to replace it? what other replacements would do the job? Please help me out, thanks
There are many universal antennas that can replace the stock one, try searching ebay for the different styles. It would be possible to use a hidden antenna as well, but then you would have to do something about the stock one.
Removing it and having the hole filled would be the best option, but it wont be cheap.

could someone please point me in the right direction with this? like a website or a name of an antenna that would work. im 17 and just recently got into cars. thanks
You could go the route that I went.
I used a Fuba roof mount antenna.

But I didn't mount it on my roof. Instead I mounted it in the same spot that the old antenna went. Fits perfectly. It's just a tad bit difficult to bolt it in if you have large hands. (tight space)

looks great, i think i will go with that. is it difficult to take off the stock antenna and replace it? anything i should kno before doing it?
To install the fuba antenna, you would have to remove the stock antenna, antenna motor and antenna wire that connects to the radio.
Removal of the stock antenna is pretty easy and straight forward just from looking at it. The motor is held on by two bolts, iirc. Also on the exterior part of the antenna at the very top where the antenna comes out, should be a ring w/ two small pits on it. You'll have to unscrew to get the antenna completely off. I wish I could offer a picture of it, but I don't have any.

that doesnt sound too difficult. what tools would i need to do all of this? i appreciate the help man, ive been wanting to get rid of that antenna for a LONG time
Trending Topics
A flat head screw driver to get the little cap off the top of the antenna base, and just a 10mm wrench or socket to remove the old antenna motor.
I'm interested in doing this also. The only question I have have is how does it mount? I was looking a the pic on ebay. I see a nut on the bottom of the mast but what actually holds it in place? Is there a plate/bracket or something?
the antenna has a wire at the very bottom of it that runs through the car and connects to the back of the radio.
The antenna mounts w/ two 8 or 6mm bolts (can't remember exactly which one). No brackets.

PLEASE!!!
The motor weighs a good bit. been a while sice i've held one, but its weight savings is welcomed. As far as a plug goes, I was gonna try that the other day, but the hole is oval not round. Here's my post from PreludePower.

I think my bolt'll look better once I paint it all flat black. The base of it is from my POS Autozone universal antenna. I had to custom fabricate a rubber peice to go on the under sir=de in order for it to all work right.

Ok.. Well, I was going to reply to this topic originally with a link to another topic I replied to, but H-T Search isn't to great and I couldn't find the topic for the life of me... So I guess I'll just have to re-type it all again... Joy!
So anyways.. To answer a few questions.. (A Manual does wonders.

The Antenna and how the wire runs through the car.

So to remove it you'll have to take out your seats and console and pull up the carpet. Which sucks if that's the only thing you're doing.

I didn't go buy the removal tool, I just used a flat head screw driver and a mallet. Just put the flat head in the grooves on the "special nut" and hit it around (spin) until it comes off.
My Antenna story:
Since I got the car the Antenna didn't move. It was stuck in the up position. But every time you turned the Radio on and off it still made the noise.. I got an aftermarket Radio and didn't plug the stock antenna Power Lead up so it wouldn't get the signal to go up or down. Mostly forgot about it. But I hated it always being up so I pushed it down and then I got bad reception. So I went on eBay and bought a "Hidden Antenna."
The unit I got plugs into the back of the Stereo like every other Antenna does, and it also requires a Power Signal and a Ground. When I first got it I didn't install all that, I just plugged it up and sat it in my car, I was testing reception.. When it was in the floor (where it would fall too) it had crap reception, but if I sat it on the dash on the Passenger Side AirBag, it would work fine.
I had stripped my interior out one summer and when I was putting it back in, also getting ready to move out to AZ from MS, I went ahead and wired up the Hidden Antenna and place it under the dash, right under the AirBag on the Passenger Side. I also pulled the stock antenna wire to the back of the car and tied it up in the trunk as I wasn't removing the stock unit. Needless to say, the reception wasn't great under the Airbag.. But I didn't use the radio much so didn't worry and I was moving..
So skip forward to that Xmas season and my car is broken into in AZ while I was back in MS visiting.. They jacked my headunit and rear speakers.. So when I get back I throw my stock unit back in.. Now the Stock Unit has power again and is making noise when it turns on and off.. So I unplug the Power to the Motor, no more noise!
When I finally got a new Head Unit for my B-Day last summer I re-thought how I wanted to install the Hidden Antenna and also how to get rid of the Stock Unit.
Since the Hidden Antenna had good reception when I sat it on top of the Passenger Side AirBag, but I couldn't get it above the AirBag.. But I still had the part of the dash that was above the Gauge.. Popped of the Passenger Tweeter and slide it above the gauges, ran the wire down to the radio, hook up the power there and I grounded the Antenna back up inside the dash on probably one of the bolts that holds the fuse box in. It can be seen with the Tweeter Cover off.
Works well there, I don't listen to the Radio much, and don't know many of the Channels out here, so I dunno if it works how it should or not, but not that worried about it..
I then removed the Stock Antenna Unit and a fellow H-T Member helped me out with a plug. I gave him the dimensions and he sent a plug. It's a stock Honda plug, and unfortunately they don't make Oval ones.. But this Plug works pretty well from what I can see.
I don't know if it leaks or not, as I'm in AZ and also park in the garage, so the car doesn't seen rain much..
But while I had it back home over the '07 XMas break it did go through some rain, and I did have water in my trunk, but I don't know if it was from the plug or not.. Part of my Trunk Seal/Gasket was pinched and I didn't know. The wire that runs into the actual Trunk Deck was for some reason pulled out some and was being closed on the gasket which was causing a bad seal.. So I dunno what was causing the leak..
But I no longer have a loud annoying antenna that sits 3 feet in the air. And I have it removed also, so WEIGHT LOSS!!!@!@!! And the hole is plugged..

lol, Whoops.. I forgot that..
It's an OEM Honda Rubber Plug. I don't have the part number, but everyone can order from the guy I bought it from, he sells other plugs (Integra Rear Wiper Delete Plugs) and I'm sure he'll be happy to sell these.
I don't have pictures right now, but I'll try to get some soon.
