Wait, you can take the top of a motor off?! Has someone done this? Sorry, just messin man. I don't think anyone can give an accurate ETA, especially since you haven't done it before. I've had plenty of things take 3-4 hours the first time and 20-30 minutes the second (I'm retarded). I'd say if you read up in a good manual it should take about 2-3 hours your first time, if you have help from another "n00b". Just make sure you have all your tools and make sure you follow the torquing pattern to loosen the head so you don't warp it. Are you leaving the manifolds in the bay?

mines a b18c1 and i thought initially about just pulling the head off. The more I talked to people and the more I thought about it, it made more sense to do it right and pull the motor and do a proper rebuild.

Anyway, it was my first time but I got my entire motor out (using the cheapass Larin engine lift and engine stand from Autozone--its nearly impossible to get the engine on the stand...i had to jack the front of the stand on the ends of the lift legs to get it to reach!). Took me 2 days to get the thing out but thats because I took the time to label things and learn as I go. Had a big holdup with a stuck LCA balljoint which didn't help either!

Anyway, with the money saved doing it all yourself, you'll be able to get a full set of forged pistons, rods and all the seals and stuff you need to have a "new" engine again. My block is at the machinist now, new ACL bearings on their way from Earl and should have it all back tomorrow. I expect another few days to reassemble it.

this may delay getting to the dyno in syracuse a few weeks till i can put some breakin miles on the engine. I hope that is ok I want to be able to push some boost when we go.

LEON, hows your car holding up? Don't do anything stupid like I did.
