what can water in the spark plugs cause, car misfires 00 civic si em1
ok so today my car was acting funny and misfiring when i hit full throttle, when it was cold it was fine but warmed it misfired and wouldnt acelerate, so the engine light came on and it was
cylinder 1 misfire
i took the spark plug wires out and found water above the spark plug in cylinder 1, not in the cyliner on top of the spark plug in the hole, it was soaked and i cleaned it up, and it still misfires, waht could that water come from and what could it have damaged

Have you steam cleaned the engine recently? Are your weatherstrips gone? Open the dist. cap and check for water in there too.
yup checked everywhere, there was only water in the hole and there was dust in the cap, chnged the cap and rotor, spark plug wires and spark plugs, now the car is much better but just minor sputtering i can still hear, could anything else be bad, i have no idea how water got in it, but i did wash the car and then it started, so i assume it was that water, but still the wires seal water out the hole

the wires make the holes water resistant not proof, direct spray will work its way in there. (engine cleaning especially)
Give it time, it should dry out and get better. If it doesn't get better, you may have damaged your coil or igniter.

I never said that is how it was getting there. I was simply wondering if you did have a hole in there because you said the car still misfires after you took the water out of the spark plugs. If you do get water in your intake it can cause it to misfire or worse.

I just had the same thing in my 99 Si, it was sputtering when my wife was driving it and the check engine light came on. It was misfiring in Cyl 1 and 2. I just replaced the cap, rotor, wires, and will be replacing the plugs with the OEM recommended ones. When I took the misfiring cylinders plugs out, i found water inside the spark plug hole. I'm with the original poster, don't see how the hell water was in there, but it had to come in from the spark plug wire end. Now, the only thing I can think of if there was water condensation?
All the parts that I had on it were from the auto parts store, so don't know if the wires were shitty and not creating a good seal. I replaced everything with OEM parts and NGK wires and plugs. I just started the car right now and it's running fine without any CEL.

I see this alot after body shop repairs at the dealership i work at. and 9 times out of 10 they have some aftermarket ebay set of wires on the car. as stated earlier in this thread the boots on the plugs help prevent water entering the gally's not seal.
