any mods done to the vehicle besides exhaust?
id prob just stick with an oem one.
unless you plan on turboing it or swapping the motor or something

none just iridiums and a K&N filter from the previous owner the only other things i plan for the engine are CAI new plug wires thats about it i like the mileage and reliability as its my DD for now

Gutting the cat actually decreases performance as the gasses get caught up in the empty can..just replace it with a new cat and done deal.
Hi-flow cats a bunch of either stick with stock or get a test pipe.

+1. Hi-flow cat's on an engine that hasn't been built or turbo'ed is freakin pointless. If anything, get an ITR exaust system so it at least SOUNDS good.

So passing emissions and still reducing restriction is pointless?

I'm not saying it's the most cost-effective thing to do, but I wouldn't call it pointless...

"With a difference of only 1hp between a straight pipe and a 49-state LEGAL cat, it seems foolish to flaunt the law and pollute the air that we all breathe. Hell, if you are only looking for those kinds of gains, just loose 10 pounds -that alone will make your car faster than adding 1 measly HP."

Straight quote from Import Tuner. So go with an OEM. At least you can use that argument against them if they try to start some ****.

true im not looking to gain anything from this insatall i just dont feel the need to fork over an insane amount of money to a dealer for a pipe with a filter in it when i could get an after market piece that flows equally as well or better for much cheaper that wont negatively affect the drivability or mpg

Fo Sho. ^^

I found that article in a random google search.

I'm not trying to say OEM cats are junk, just that it's not worth it to use a straight pipe to gain power. A high flow cat will gain you some power while keeping your car legal to drive in these great United States.
