Default My Type-R track footage and near wreck

(get the quicktime player here: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/)

A friend of mine filmed this from his Miata, which I must say was very nicely outfitted. I think it had a "sport" package or something from the factory, whatever it was, it had some beefy suspension and stuck to the track like it was on rails. R-compound tires never hurt either.

So, he's following me around the track (Hallett, OK) and we catch up to one of the seven Vipers that decided to grace us with their appearence that day, unfortunately none of them could drive. The driver we come upon has the license place "CATS TOY" and Cat ain't a guy. Not to knock women drivers or anything, but this chick didn't know wtf she was doing out there. I didn't know this until we get right up behind her and she all of a sudden randomly puts on her brakes after exiting a turn. My friend comes pretty close to raming me, which I was unaware of at the time.

Anyway, check it out, it's some pretty good footage. Good sound quality too... love to hear the AEM roar from ahead! Plus you get to see how I learned how not to take the apexes early by taking them too late, hehe

Very entertaining.

But...what was that extra braking about? Anybody ever find out?
Maybe "Cat" wetted the litter box! LOL
Ben, you missed just about every apex, that's how the Miata was able to catch up.

yup

He's got several years experience on me. I'm still a n00b out there.... I learned a lot just watching this video. Part of the problem was me constantly looking in my rear view mirror going "what, he's back on my tail again?? oops, missed the apex again!" hehe. The next day we autocrossed and even though I won the Street Touring classes, he beat me in whatever class he was in by almost a full second. It's all about the driver.

and I don't know what the deal was with the Viper girl... a couple times the car almost came to a stop because she down shifted and bogged the car too... heh

Wow, nice video man. I can't wait to get on a track somewhere. And props to your friend in the Miata, he's a good driver. So is his car stock except R compound tires? But that Viper stopping like that didn't look very safe, nice job avoiding it though. And let us know what mods you have. It looked like you were moving pretty good on the straights, but every ITR does

and to those who asked, my car is stock except for DC JDM 4-1 header + 2.5" Carsound cat from SMSP, and an AEM CAI. Oh, and running on Falken Azenis, that I hope will last me to the next 2-day track event in Topeka that BLACK DRAGON needs to come down to and participate in with Batoutahell and myself!

Yes, it's a cool track, most drivers I talk to say it's fairly challenging to learn the lines for, but I've never been to another track so I can't vouch for that. It is kind of short at 1.8 miles, but I enjoy it. It has 10 turns, and as you can see from the video, most of the time you're going up or down hill, several turns are blind.

It is 30 minutes west of Tulsa Oklahoma and I've been thinking of trying to get together a group of Hondatech-er's on a weekend that they are doing High Speed Touring which is basically $75 for five 15 minute sessions... not bad for over an hour of track time. Usually about 10-20 people show up each day, sometimes more. They do it 2 days a month, every month. In that particular video we (the Miata and I) were just ahead of the pack, most people were on the other side of the track. The only one really lapping us was a red NSX. Hopefully I will have more video to post.

WOAH!! That's the second person today that told me they were having a baby!

Well... Jeff, you just need some of these and maybe some of these and uh, well, there isn't an HT icon for it.... but knowing you, you'll probably have some of this:

Either way, congratulations man!

LOL! Nice!

Just finished off a bottle of that last night. Of course it took me two months of sipping but I`m conditioning myself to drink it faster. Alcoholism here I come!! Can`t wait for my first AA meeting!

Know anybody down there that is just itching to smoke your R *** on the track with an //M Coupe?
Perhaps they`ll believe me this time when I say immaculate condition. hehe.
Although I would just use "perfect condition" with the //M since I am a second owner. Who knows, the first owner may have driven it in the rain or something stupid like that.

BTW, I`m very glad to see how much fun you are having with the R. It went to a good home.

LOL I knew it!!

haha, I'll check around - but most of my friends are just a bunch of ricers like me that can't afford really nice sports cars!

BTW, I'm very glad to see how much fun you are having with the R. It went to a good home.
heh, and I'm very glad I bought my R so cherry from someone who took as good a care for it as you did! It's like I bought a brand new car! BTW, I have over 16,000 miles on it. Crazy huh? Almost twice as many miles as you put on it in 2 years in just 4 months!!
But now I got my 90 Si beater, so hopefully I'll be putting less miles on the R as soon as I can get it running up to par.
