Default next track day coming up

My next track weekend with the new hatch is May 3 & 4 with the Porsche club. I haven’t really done anything to the car since the last weekend, but maybe I’ll be a little more confident in it right off the bat and not pussyfoot around for the first several sessions.

I did buy some new rear calipers, so I’ll be able to bleed the 4 year old brake fluid out of the backs before this event.

I think I’ve found the limits of my 4 year old victoracers already, so now I can focus on being near those limits as much as possible  .

Always tough to be a civic in a field of porsches, but luckily most porsches aren’t really driven worth a flip at these events. So, there’s hope for me yet, I think.

Nope, I'm just the resident *******.

Which car is it? I might know it anyway.

[edit, I'm not affiliated with King, but my car(s) have spent a few months there]

So since I'm blogging, I guess I'll follow up.

The PCA event was a success. the car didn't blow up, I didn't go off, and many porsches were passed.

I know there is no such thing as a HPDE champ, but I honestly have to admit that I enjoy passing high dollar cars like POrsches and Z06 corvettes in a 92 civic. This is in HPDE 3 (or yellow, whatever) so driving skill is still a factor, but I don't really care. it's not total novices, and most cars make me work for the pass.

I couldn't catch any of the turbos (all on race tires), but caught (or never saw) most everything else. There was a well driven supercharged Miata that hauled serious ***** that I couldn't catch, and a GTS VIper (on street tires) that passed me most sessions.

The car did real well, but was very loose. I am on 4+ year old victoracers, so it took more than 1 lap for them to start gripping. There are a couple of 100mph+ sweepers where the car got very loose on turn-in before the tires were fully up to temp, and it was pretty uncomfortable trying to keep the back end behind the front. I may give the rear a little bit of toe in before my next event. (zero toe now).

The koni yellows I put in the back worked great. I have 500f and 600r springs, and while that sounds stiff for a 2300 lb car, it still took more body roll than I like to get the suspension loaded up. maybe 600 800 is in my future.

what else... I used exactly 1 quart of Amsoil 10/30 during 8 20-25 minute sessions (shifting at 8200 or so) plus 4 70 mile drives to-from the track at about 4500 rpm all the way. it is bordering on what I consider excessive. the car doesn't really seem to smoke, but I can smell the oil burning. I am sure I have some in my catch can also.

I wonder how hard it is to rebuild a honda motor. is it something I can do in my garage, or is it best left to the professionals?

it's not that hard... but if you have to ask.. it's better to leave it to the pros.

some people say don't rebuild, just buy another used motor.... no one builds motors better than the honda factory

I rebuilt my motor last year... it's still running
You will need a Factory Service Manual, You will need to find a good machine shop to do the machine work, and **** that you can't do. It will cost you a bit of money.
You may have to buy some tools. I spent about $2 grand when all was said and done, which works out to about 3 or 4 junkyard motors. Or you can spend about 2 to 3 grand and have it professionally rebuilt.

Here is a thread on a few comments regarding my rebuild

I like the sound of junkyard motors, they last forever in my experience.

my car came with a 2 liter b18C5 DPR motor with stageV head and all that stuff. I feel like it has all the go fast goodies I could really want, so rebuilding it would make for a more fun track car. I'm not really married to the motor, but I'd feel like I was doing the car a disservice if I were to just swap a junkyard GSR motor in it and let the built motor rot. Hence my thoughts about rebuilding this one at some point in time. it still pulls hard and performs well, but like I said I'm starting to smell the oil burning.
