Coilover question: PIC vs. Koni/GC on an ef
I am trying to figure out what coilover setup I should go with. My car is an ef hatch with a b16 in it, and will be used for daily driving and HPDE events.
I was pretty set on going with the GC/Koni setup with front top hats with 500f/600r spring rates. However, after doing a little reading and talking with some friends it sounds like the PIC Select or Apex setup might be a better option. The Select's are adjustable and the Apex's aren't, but the Apex's are a lot cheaper. Another factor is that the PIC's don't offer a stiffer rate in the back.
I would appreciate your opinions. Thanks

We do offer setups that have a higher rear spring rate than the front, those are the R-series of coilovers. EF's have the R2's, which are 10k/14k which have been run with great success in Honda Challenge 4 in the midwest by Sam Myers.
I was in the same situation as you, however i ended up with GC/Bilsteins. Picked Bilsteins because they are just down the street from me, so getting revalves are quick and easy.
But for the money, i think PIC makes a quality product but i think you will be very happy with either setup.
Make sure you search through the archives too, there are tons of threads about GC vs PIC. Lots of great information about both products.
My GC with revalved Bilsteins and GC tophats.

Hi,
I'm in almost the same situation and I too am starting to get inclined towards something other than GC+Koni.
I know a lot of people are very happy with koni, and I've been driving my set for about 3 years now, but there's something strange about their valving. I'm not an expert, but I've tried the yellows with soft and stiff springs and something seems a bit wrong.
Just recently, I tried a different brand (Buddy Club RSD) on a friend's car. I will not go into detail, but I'm still amazed of the amounts of traction. For now, they seem to be my #1 choice, but....
I found PIC and I'm stunned by the similarities ( in appearance ) between them and the BC. I also see that people are happy with PIC and that got me thinking that PIC may be my best choice. PIC is definitely cheaper, but for me personally, I decided to not be a cheep *** this time and I want to buy the better coilovers not the better bang for the buck.
so SlowB16, I personally would advise you against GC simply because koni may be the best shock for the buck, but it's not THE BEST SHOCK.
Here are some specific questions:
1. Is there anyone here who has driven on PIC, BC RSD, BC N+ and is willing to advise us?
2. Are BC offered with different spring rates
3. Can I switch front and back springs with PIC and BC ( i mean buy a 10k/12k and switch them to 12/10) or in yet more words: what range would the PIC/BC shocks handle.
4. one more for those who have tried both brands. I was amazed how BC RSD can be pretty comfortable and still perform great on the track. Can I expect the same from PIC select?
Thanks in advance

PIC>OTS Koni/GC
pimp koni> PIC
since ur looking for something that wont break the bank, pic is probably better for you. they are already good on front travel (which is an issue on the ef chassis) and have good dyno numbers compared to ots koni (at keast the r2s that i looked into did)

Its not an off the shelf Koni shock thought. The standard now is and has been the SPSS3 valved shocks . These can be purchased new as their "Race" shocks or OTS shocks can be sent back shortened and revalved.

I been thining about giving them a try on the race car
with money low these days, and the suspension needs to be revalved and redone. next year i maybe pick a set up from PIC (maybe theyll offer a SCCA discount
) if i somehow dont get money to get race konis and another set of springs. also thats if i still have this car

I love my PIC's(Select p3's...12kf/10kr)....
i used to have Ground Controls and kyb agx's and they were pretty good too(obviously the koni's are much better than the agx's and i had ots rates which were pretty soft)....and i have driven a couple hondas with the GC/Koni setup and it feels great..
The PIC's are awesome...i have had them for about 10 months and they are holding up great...i live in downtown sf(where every street has 1foot deep potholes), and even after driving around for 10months of abuse they have not failed me once...heres some pictures from a recent track day (redline time attack)
I want to thank PIC for their excellent customer service too(i wnt to order their apex coilovers and they were out of stock, so they hooked me up with a great price on the selects instead..which were what i really wanted but couldn't quite afford)...i really felt like they were going above and beyond to make sure i was happy...props
