boost on a stock LS
how much risk of damage is there if you were to run 5-8 psi on a completely stock B18A1. taking into consideration, the engine has high mileage and it burns a small amount of oil, but compression is good across the board and runs strong. with a proper tune would turbocharging it effect the reliability ??? all thoughts welcome thanks
5-8 psi is fine for stock. everyone i've seen that boosted their stock motor was rolling around with 6 psi. but since you say the motor has high mileage and burns a little oil. i worry that boosted it would speed up you motor to an early grave. i recommend a rebuild with some aftermarket parts.
if yuv got a legit compression test id say yur fine i drive around every day with 12.5 lbs on a stock bottom end with plenty of boosted miles. especially 5-8 lbs that wont affect relaibility. it will get boring fast tho
Yea, from what I know boosting 8lbs on a stock motor is completely fine. Just make sure you have a boost gauge to make sure you're not over-boosting.
PSI doesn't matter.. because its a useless number if we arent talking about the same turbo. Your HP goals will determine what will break and what wont. What are your goals? If done correctly turbocharging wont affect the life of your engine a whole lot but, if you slop **** togther it will be a diaster.
Either way go to the FI forum and read some more info.

for ur 411. FMU are helpful when your car requires it. If you car is completely built then yea a fmu will help out. if you have a few bolt ons, dont expect much.
my car is tunned on chrome

Not true, my only experience with tuning Greddy E-manage is in a boosted '93 Corolla, it is OBD1.

SO HE CAN PUT ON A BEGINNER TURBO KIT (IM ASSUMING THE BEST) , AND RUN IT AT 22PSI ON THE STOCK BLOCK AND WILL LAST FOREVER AS LONG AS HE HAS A MANAGEMENT SYSTEM? I DONT THINK SO.
GET A NEW SET OF PISTONS AND RINGS AND THEN IT WOULD BE **** AT 12PSI ALL DAY. NOW IF YOU DONT WANT TO DO THAT AND YOU THINK YOUR COMPRESSION IS FINE, RUN IT AT AROUND 8-10PSI. ITS BEEN PROVEN AND PROVEN AGAIN TO RUN GREAT AS A DD

Don't be an idiot. Everyone knows you don't measure your **** by just psi. 7-8PSI on a GT30 is different than on a TD04HL or a T3/T4 or whatever turbo it is.

If you have a question on turbocharging your stock LS, i suggest checking out the Forced Induction forum, but reading the FAQ before posting anything. In the forums other than FI, you end up getting a lot of misinformation and ignorant posts that aren't going to help you achieve your goals.
