Does that make sense?

About an month ago I noticed that my car was loosing power, not rolling on hills, and every so often on the highway the steering wheel and the whole car would shake. And when I would put my hand on the left front wheel it would be extremely hot, to the point where it was smoking

Took off the front left wheel to find that the caliper piston was stuck about 1/3 of the way out. I replaced it, bled the brake fluid on that side and continued on my merry way. Problem solved. Until the other day when I experience the same symptoms. But this time it was the front right wheel that was very very hot.

My question is, is this common for parts to fail so close to each other? And when I replace a single caliper, do I need to only bleed just that particular one, or do I have to do the whole system?

if you clamped the brake hose w/ hose clamp of the caliper you were replacing, you should be able to get away with bleeding that one side. Its probably best to bleed all 4 corners first, before you decide to buy another caliper for the front right side.

Just curious, how much pad life you have on the front brake pads?

 

surprisingly very good life, they are akebono pads.

i didnt clamp it, do you think it could be air in the lines causing the caliper to mess up on the right side?

yes, until the right side started to give me issues.

 

Calipers,wheel cylinders, rotors and such should always be replaced in pairs...
