Default CRX snap oversteer how do you setup for RR?

Hi guys,

I've researched this forum and most setups are running harder rear spring rates to increase rotation on the crx. However, our experience on road racing is the CRX has a very loose tail and snap oversteer is very severe. Granted driving style is very important, ie no mid corner throttle lift, but due to the short wheel base, the rear is simply too loose for high speed corner entry. The car is so twitchy, its very unstable on fast tracks.

I would like to know what setups are you running for fast flowing road race circuits?

I think a rear GT wing is essential for the crx to increase more rear end grip and perhaps a stiffer front sway bar to reduce oversteer.

yes, car is corner weighted.

I'm now planning to build a GT wing to get some downforce and keep the rear more stable.

What LSD choice do you guys run? 1.5way or 2way?

What kind of alignment settings are you running? What kind of tire size/pressure/compound? There is more going on here than just spring rates.

1.5-way on a FWD car.

I can't answer for the CRX guys but you *can* race successfully without a wing. SCCA ITA CRX's are plenty fast without them and some Honda Challenge H4 cars don't use them either.

Soften the rear until you're comfortable. There's no point driving a "theoretically fast" car if you don't have any faith in it doing what you want it to.

Where is it twitchy? Fast corners, slow corners, corner entry, corner exit? Do you trailbrake?

First off, have you replaced your TORN rear trailing arm bushings? If not, there's your problem

Yes, they are a little less forgiving than other cars, sure. But it is barely noticeable, especially if you drive consistently. You have 3 obvious options, pick one:

1. Add more front sway bar/Loosen rear sway bar
2. Increase front spring rates/lower rear spring rates
3. Loosen rear shocks/stiffen front shocks

I'm sorry, but don't come here with generalizations that a car is naturally tail-happy. Drive a stock CRX and tell me they are snappy! I feel my car is super easy and fast to drive. If I lift halfway through a turn, sure, I'm spinning, but it's not rocket science to keep your foot on the fast pedal

Thanks, will try your recommendations on the next track day.

Good luck to you, let us know what ends up fixing it for you. Also, make sure your tire pressures are even when hot. Only start the rears 2-4 psi above the fronts when cold.

The crx is tail happy and it does snap oversteer in comparison with a civic or integra, this has been posted 1 trillion times in this forum form guys with experience for the past baziilion years. No need to be giving people the hammer for asking a legit question.

For Suzukii

if you go to search

then type

crx oversteer or crx tail happy or or crx loose

check "archived" content

select the road race forum

then check "search in post bodies"

then next

theres quite a few results ....even GI8U2racing's topic lol

some crx's are snap happy because the after market rear bar is binding.

make sure it is free. it is typically the set-up and it may not be what you think it is.

Hey hey, I was giving the hammer for just remembering to keep your foot on the fast pedal, it should be natural...
