Drag chutes, which one?
Im starting to look into getting the apropriate chute for what im hoping to be a TS car. car weight will be 2400lbs and estimated traps 155-160. Im kinda biased towards the Stroud beacuse of reports of a "softer hit" and ease of packing. Those of you using a Stroud which part number are you using? According to their calculations i should need a Pro Stock chute and that really doesnt seem correct. Or any other recomendations are appreciated?
i got my stroud from James also.
i had a simpson the last 2 years, and its a royal PITA to pack. dont even think about attempting it unless you have 2 people that have done it before.

according to JEGs website you take the weight of your car and multiply it by your trap speed you expect. then you take this number and divide it by 1000 to get the correct shoot i.e.
(2000lbs x 150mph)/1000 = 300 so you would buy the stroud 330 model. i just ordered a stroud 330 from jegs today

i don' t believe in the calculation for the FWD cars -- there isn't enough weight on the rear of the car to justify the larger chute and if the wind is right you will lift the back end of the car when you pull it at the top end of the track -- i know from experience.
the stroud super comp chute is the best bet for the majority of fwd street car applications
95% of the time the cars can stop using their brakes only anyways and the chute is an added safety feature and required by some rule books then you might as well just use the smallest chute you can get away with for the added stopping insurance

thanks for all the help guys i think my mind is almost set. Does anyone here have experience with Deist chutes?

So for my 240sx, weighing around 2600-2700 lbs, and hope to be trapping around 160mph, do I *really* need the Pro Stock Stroud chute? I mean, seriously, it's the biggest one without doing dual chutes...

Listen to James. I listened to Stroud and went with the one they recommended for me and almost crashed the car a few times because of it. FWD cars are too light in the rear and the last thing you need is a chute pulling the rear tires off the ground at 160mph. Get the super comp chute and you don't have to be scared to death every time you pull it. lol
BTW, i got my super comp from James.

I think the deist one has all of the rubber bands. Innes and John used to have one...hated it. Go with the Stroud, you won't be dissapointed, having packed both a simpson and a stroud. The stroud is much easier. The little bag makes it much better.
