Default Help a n00b Part III: D16 FI?

Again, forgive my n00bishness, I'm still learning, and feebly clicking the search button

Given a goal of say, a conservative 200-240 whp, what steps need to be taken on a d16 motor to achieve these kinds of numbers?

I've run a number of searches, and only pulled up threads with questions being asked by people who know somewhat what they're talking about already--an advantage that they have over me.

I've heard the adage that preassembled kits are overpriced, and that you can "piece together your own kit for half the price and make more power." I've no idea where to even start. I know the parts needed include a turbo, manifold, dp, i/c, fp, injectors, etc etc. but where are people sourcing all these parts? I mean it's easy to say "Yeah, just pick up x turbo, y i/c, and this this and this" but, when it comes down to it, I've no idea where to turn.

So, in summary, how much am I looking at investing in a d16 to hit 220ish whp?
What am I investing in, exactly? ALL parts included?

it really depends, you can find used parts here on honda-tech or new parts online at places like atpturbo.com or locally if there are any shops in your area. hell you can even get some parts from a junk yard. depending on your combination of new/used parts the price can vary.

one thing you need is some way to tune it and access to a tuner unless you plan on going the route of an FMU. my best advice to you is to purchase a used complete Greddy kit, it will meat your power goals and they can be found for $800 you might have to add your own intercooler but once again you should be able to find one on honda-tech market place.

Sent the OP a few links to D series geared sites with a ton of info on them.

d-series.org
turbod16.com

Both have FAQ's that answer basically any general question you can have about turboing the SOHC, what's needed, rough prices, etc.

Hey thanks guys! Excellent replies.

What are some available EM choices? I'm only familiar with the worlds of 7th gen Celicas, and WRX's, so this is all new to me.

aem ems, hondata, crome, neptune, apexi power FC, hks fcon, motec, blah blah blah, there are a lot of options, just get the one your tuner prefers and make sure there is more than one tuner in your area who can tune it, no point in having a great ems if nobody can tune it...
