Does anyone make tubular k-members (cross-members) for Hondas?
The factory one looks pretty damn heavy. I'm wondering if any company makes tubular replacements because I've never seen any. I know it'd be expensive, but I'd like to see what's out there.
I have never seen one either And I have no idea if anyone makes them. I figure I can add some numbers to this thread. I just weighed the engine bay rear cross member out of my 96 Accord the other day because I though that it looked heavy as well. It only weighs 22lbs. So there maybe a little bit of weight that could be elevated with a tube frame. I'm not sure how much you would be able to shed though.
Have you thought about way know one makes one ?
NHRA rule book doesn't allow it.
Any class car that allows a full cage doesn't use one.
Anybody else have any thoughts ?
I have one sitting in one of the sheds, I'd guess 40-50lbs.
Just saw the second post. That light?

Lot's of us don't care about classes or rules. I'll buy/install whatever makes me faster. It's bizarre that tubular k-members are so popular with the rest of the car world, but it's never mentioned in the Honda scene. Tubular f-body k-members are only $500. Maybe fabricators don't want to put in the time to build one with such a slim profit margin.
And just looking at my k-member (ek chassis), it looks more like 50lbs than 20. I could be wrong though. I'd love to see some more weights posted. If they really are only 20lbs, I can see why nobody makes aftermarket replacements.

Actually, somebody used to make one, but they went out of business for some reason.. I want to say it was a shop that Dr. Charles was involved with, Area 51 Fabrications in CA, but I could be wrong..
