So ive been using synchromesh in my tranny for a while now, but i was recently told royal purple max gear oil was better since i have an lsd. Then i was told there is a special tranny fluid for b16's with lsd from honda. So i called them and they told me to use regular manual fluid or gear oil. Any one have any helpful input.....thanks

if the tranny grinds a band-aid fix is syncomesh,but ive been using syncromesh for years without a probelm.but the only reason i use it is cause my tranny kinda grinds into third at high rpms.

just use honda mtf. if your tranny is grinding then you need to get it rebuilt.

 

Don't use gear oil. MTF made for synchromesh trannies typically have deactivators to keep the fluid from eating yellow metals. I don't think gear oil would be a better alternative to a properly formulated MTF. Keep in mind that Honda specs plain ol' Honda MTF for the current-gen Civic Si with limited-slip. Any equivalent should be fine.

Honda or Amsoil Synchromesh MTF would be my recommendations.

I've got a Quaife LSD and they told me just use manufacturer's recommended oil.

I'd use Syncromesh as a fix for a grinding problem, but I don't think it's needed for an LSD. Go with the Honda stuff.

And this is just my personal experience, but Royal Purple's tranny fluid (Syncromax i think it's called) made my tranny grind when it didn't grind before. I went to Honda MTF and it was all good, well until I granaded the Diff

 

I am assuming that you have an oem lsd, which is a gear type unit and requires no additive. I would recommend Amsoil Syncromesh.

i use pennzoil synchromesh on my factory b16b tranny, i had some grinding that it minamized, been working fine for a year now... if there is nothing wrong with the tranny though i would just use honda MTF.

 

Sounds like we about beat this one to death again.

Honda MTF for your tranny even if it has a factory or gear type LSD.

Syncromesh if your tranny has a little grinding issues.

Everything else is just a waste of money.

 

Yeah had a little scratching going into the famous third(seems to be the one to always go first). I wasted cash putting royal purple max gear which made it scratch third even at low rpms. So by the time i finished up everything was closed. Hadd to wait till the next day to put synchromesh. Ended up spending like 65 bucks on just fluid when i could have only done it once. Oh well now i know to stick with it. Thanks for all the input.....

 

first i used motor oil for my cable b16 tranny, 3rd gear grinded a lot and sometimes it wa hard to get into it at high rpms, i switched to gm synchromesh and the high rpm 3rd gear grind went away almost completly and became much easier to shif into,,,,,,,,,,,,,, GM SYNCHROMESH FTW!!!

 

Just wondering where do you guys find those GM SYNCHROMESH stuff?
