1987 CRX Si
Hey all -
New user here. I've had a '87 CRX since I started driving. Literally - 10 years now. I have gone through several new cars and trucks over the course of the past 10 years but I just can't get myself to unload the CRX. Call it a personal attachment.
This website was recommended by a friend as a place to figure out what to do. It has about 160k miles on it and it needs some work. Not major work. It drinks coolant. It needs a new o2 sensor (I removed the cat when it went bad). It needs new shocks and struts. It needs new doors/locks as it's been broken into three times (thieves pop the locks out). All of that said, it still runs and I have a personal attachment to it.
There was a time that I thought I would get into autoX with it... but I've been told the live rear axle is less than ideal and that a B series swap would be easier into a 88-91 CRX if I wanted to go that route. I just don't want to go that route. Honda dealerships around here have astronomical prices for doing the work that I would like done, conidering the monetary value of the car... but I don't have the ability to do the work myself.
What would you do? Where would you go (say within 500 miles) to bring it back to life? Where would you go (again within 500 miles) to do some sort of engine swap?

Buy a factory manual, cheap set of tools, and take your time doing what you want to it. In th long run after it's all said and done you'll feel better about your own accomplishment than have some else do the work. The first car you crack open is always the scariest but it's not rocket science. Go for it.

these cars are incredible in CSP for autocrossing. no need to do a b series man. i am, but it's not needed. the suspension can be made to handle. just take some work. and these cars are extremely easy to work on. it's like legos, with nuts and bolts.
