Hyperfest @ Summit Point (Registration Open)
http://www.nasaproracing.com/n...d=731
http://www.nasaracing.net <--You have to be a member of NASA.
Registration for NASA-Virginia Hyperfest at Summit Point is open as of today.
It's expensive as far as HPDE go, about $360 plus $44 NASA membership if you are not already a member.
However... It's the biggest event on the East Coast every season, and involves the use of all three road courses at Summit Point.
Group One (Beginner) and Group Two (Intermediate) fill up almost immediately as soon as word gets around, so you should sort yourselves out and get registered sooner than later if you think it's something you want to do!
That's why I am posting this. Every year there seem to be 50 or so Honda-Tech people who wanted to get in, but can't.

By the time you get to Group 3 and Group 4, you will be around wickedly fast drivers who could hold their own in most race groups. You also will find cars capable of 200+ mph mixed in with cars that top out at 130 mph.
In Group 3 and Group 4, there are no co-pilots and you can pass anywhere on the track, even in corners. These are very good drivers, but the longer you're on the track, the greater the odds that you've just rolled the dice too many times. :-)
Things happen sometimes, and the farther you go with this, the greater the likelihood that you will have an issue, sooner or later.
Even this old man, as slow and cautious as he is, has had an on track incident.

Hyperfest used to be dominated by ITR-types and other Honda-Tech types. You'll notice that Chris Cobetto's Hyperfest vehicle is labelled Hype-R-Fest in an accidental but ongoing tribute to the origins of Hyperfest.
If you want a big Type R presence, then people really have to register early. Places are going to go very quickly as soon as word gets around that they've opened up registration this early.

It was a lot worse for Shu's BMW.
Photo from the flag stand right after impact.
The guy in the right seat was a racer I was showing around the track.

The BMW definitely got the worst of it.

Stephen having fun with the repairs. :-)

Too many paint fumes, I think.

If you have not registered, you are probably already out of luck.
It looks like all three public run groups and even Group 4 are filled.

I do not race. I am old and slow. They let me drive in Group 4 because they know I probably won't kill anybody, that's all.
It's too bad that although Honda-Tech was a huge part of the formation of this event, that few of us ever get there any more. Evidently we only have two days notice to get our acts together to register.
If it's not the biggest event on the East Coast, it's certainly in the top three.
