VIN, 5 lug, shaved side moldings, bigger brakes. There is a million things that differentiate a type r from a regular integra...things that can be swapped out would be interior, wing, etc...

anyone can "convert" a regular integra into a complete type r, but the VIN will always be the same no matter what...

the ls Vin would start with JH4DC4, but dont get confused cuz the GSR shares similar VIN numbers with the type r, being JH4DC2xxxxxx

Anyway, make sure all the VINs match up, and that the motor is healthy, look at the tranny too.

Speedo, interior parts, muffler, no sunroof, Rear Lower control arms are different, usually type rs have a reinforced subframe, making it possible to mount bigger sway bars without tearing the subframe....

look for a bigger sway bar and see if its mounted on the stock subframe...

Wrong some gsr vins are dc2

the type r one will start as

JH4DC231

If it doesnt start like that is IT NOT a type r.

I don't think they made an RS in 2000, so no moonroof would be a big clue.

But yeah, VIN on the firewall and dash will read "JH4DC231..."

easiest giveaway that cannot be copied from the type r is the rear subframe, just look at the bottom of the car, lie detector.

I'm surprised it took this long for this exact answer. Simple solution to anyones doubts of a car being a real R for not.

You might want to verify that it still has the ITR drive train...engine block should be stamped B18C5 and it should have an LSD stamp on the tranny. Check the VIN tag on the engine and tranny as well...if it matches the vehicle VIN, it is original. If there is orange paint on top of the B18C5 stamp, it is a OEM replacement. If the VIN plate has been drilled out or there are no VIN plates, I would do a little more research to make sure the engine isn't a stolen engine.
