well he says he bought a new distributor. so the ignitor should be good. he also says he using an MSD. OP, are you using an external coil? are you getting no spark or a weak spark?

Maybe he only replaced cap and rotor?
I don't make assumptions. Only trying to help the guy out.

Pull the valve cover off and crank it over. I had this same problem a year ago and it ended up being a ripped (not broken) timing belt. It skipped like 3 teeth on the crank and my car wouldn't start. It did exactly what you said...it just shut off when i was driving.
Completely remove the MSD setup from the system. Your car will be ok to run in stock ignition. If it runs after that, hey you know whats wrong. If not then get a volt meter check all connections to the dizzy plug harness. See if your getting voltage. If not, work back from there.
are you getting fuel if not its your ecu fuse replace that and it should be all good if the ecu fuse is blown no spark or fuel my frend had the same problem we where driving to the taco bell parking lot and it just died. his didnt even look blown so just try to replace it and get back to me

That's not an indication of whether or not it ripped and skipped a few teeth. We could see my cam gears move, but the T-belt still ended up being the problem. I doubt it's what's going on with your car after reading further, but i just wanted to correct this little inaccuracy

bammmmmers i fixed it..... survey says it is the edelbrock piggyback unit,,,, so for everyone that might have the edelbrock turbo kit and you have similar symptoms you might want to give that a try....
