What to look for in a swap?
Hey guys, ive recently found a JDM B18C swap that includes everything except the engine wire harness. The guy that is selling it bought it off his friend who bought it from hmotorsonline.com, which I know is a reputable online shop. Its already been swapped into his buddys car and was used for about 20k. The guy that bought it from him is selling it now because he changed his plans. The engine is now out of the car. But anyways, to the point. I was planning on looking at this swap and was wondering what should I be looking at? Since its out of the car, I cant start it up. I know I should check to see if the timing belt is cracked, but are there any other things I should be checking? What about a compression test? Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I would just turn it over by hand and make sure it turns free and smooth. Pull the valve cover and oil pan and check for flakes, chips, and abnormal fluids. look inside the Intake Mani for abnormal amounts of GOO! Pull the plugs and check for good color and wear. Smell the oil for abnormalities! And a thorough inspection of anything and everything you can.
If someone has been beatin this motor for 20k it could easily be JUNK.
Maybe you should spend a little more and buy a fresh import yourself.
