To all: I few days ago I ran out and jumped in my car (I have a 95 Civic Ferio) fired it up and put it in reverse. But, instead of backing up the engine just revved. I’ve checked the fluid and it’s properly filled. I appreciate any ideas, I’m stationed over here in Japan and my normal resources (read auto hobby shop) are not as good as in the states. try 1st and then reverse.

 

So is that the only gear that doesn't work? Before going into reverse, try shifting it into first and ever so slightly inch forward then as you're moving throw ii back into reverse. That usually works for me. GL!

Hey out there can any one tell me if the tranny from a 92 Prelude will be a good fit for my 95 civic? a friend of mine has one he's going to junk (it run's and drives good) but the JCI is due. it's a shame to scrap it, because it's a sharp looking car. but the sunny side is i can take what i want for free, as long i get over there and pull it before he unloads it. So, please hit me back if there a match.

 

Prelude Tranny won't fit a D-Series engine. Unless, you pull the whole engine with tranny and swap it. F-Series or H-Series? But in other words, No that transmission won't fit.

Your lucky to be stationed in japan! Maybe you can visit okinawa while your at it! But the root cause to your reverse problem is most likely inside of the tranny. Your reverse gear might be etched away enough to where it wont easily engauge. That, or one of the shifter forks are a little bent. I would try draining out your tranny and refilling it with the new HONDA mtf. It has a synco mesh blend in it which promotes smoother shifts. Granted, the reverse gear has no syncros, im sure it won't hurt. esp. with an older model with alot of miles. Also, this is very common with alot of hondas, so don't worry too much. An easier way to put it in reverse is to put it in neutral and let the clutch out, then push the clutch back in then put it in reverse. ( you might hear a small grind when you do this, so you may want to wait a second or two before putting it into reverse). HTHs.
