need help failed smog!

i just got b18c swap into my '97 civic ex this week, today i took it to get the smog check today but it failed, they told me that it wasn't reading the car, what should i do my registration expires tomorrow

Ive heard that OBD2 codereaders dont read JDM ECUs, So if your running the JDM P72 try swapping in the one from your EX for the test. But what do I know im just a NOOB. Im sure someone will chime in if im wrong.
