Default Red light next to Sun Roof Switch?

What is the little red light next to the sun roof switch? Sometimes its on and sometimes its off. I checked the manual and didn’t find anything that explained what it is. Anyone know?

I've heard it's a courtesy light to light up the shifter. I hope not, because it sucks. It just sends out a narrow beam of light that annoys me

It is for ambient lighting. It is only on when you turn your lights on (even if it is just the parking lights) and its brightness is adjusted with the dimmer switch.

Ambient lighting on the shifter...BMW's have the same thing...theirs are a little brighter though.

You know honestly, I completely forgot our cars even had that little light until the OP created this thread.

That's basically how insignificant it is.

First of all...its amber, not red. LOL. Just busting *****.

But, yeah, it is supposed to illuminate the shift ****, but it does a terrible job. The one on my mom's Accord is pretty damn bright.

...Do you all have such a hard time finding the shifter in the dark? So what, its a little beam of light.

The light is tied to the dimmer switch. It can get pretty bright if you turn the dimmer switch up all the way while you have your headlights on. But who wants extremely bright dash lights staring you back in the face at night? I know I don't. If there were an independent dimmer switch for the amber (lol) light, it may be a little more useful.

I like my dash lights all of the way bright...even with the dimmer as bright as possible the amber light is still dim as hell.

My 2005 RSX-S had the same thing. The roofline was so much closer to the shifter, that it was clearly visible. The distance between the LED and the console is too far in the Civic.

when you cover it up you KINDA notice a difference...not that you look at the shifter anyways...but its kinda cool i guess...kinda accents the interior a bit.

It just more of a "hmm whatever" type of thing
