I was cleaning my engine bay and found this part dangling below my intake manifold. Can anyone please ID this part?

Looks like a purge valve. Probably linked to your evap system or something. When the car's running, do those nipples there suck in air? They may need to be hooked up to vacuum going to your evap canister.

i just checked the nipples if they sucked in air and its a negative. im pretty sure that it is what you guys are saying it is but i am wondering why its just hanging there. i will find out what is up and let you guys know what i find out.

all that is my afriend a a purge valve. its a vacuum switching valve that tells your canister when to release fuel vapors. the ecu controls that valve. you dont need it. just make sure that the vacuum source that came from is blocked off.

Yes you do. He lives in California.

Yes it will.

Also, if you just take it out, the vacuum leak will cause an inconvenient fluctuation in idle. Just spent some dough when I needed to replace the purge solenoid to pass smog.

Find a nice place to tuck it away if you don't need to fix/reconnect it to anything.

FYI, that little cap on the hose is a tedious, fragile little bastard part, with a tiny little diaphragm inside it. Take care of it, or you'll be paying a hefty price (for it's size) for a replacement. Hate those things.

Okay. Sorry if you feel like me but when you said that you spent money to replace the purge solenoid, were you talking about the purge "valve" or the solenoid is a whole different part?

I am panicking now because i am going to smog my car in a month and i don't know where to hook the purge valve at. can someone show me a diagram to how its supposed to be set up?

Nah, I wasn't knocking on you, I was knocking on the guy who said you didn't need it. Don't worry, you have the part, and hopefully it's working. Now all you gotta do is get it in the right place. Don't trip man, I just don't want you going in unprepared. Hope you pass smog dude.
