I'm sure most of you have seen my ongoing rebuild thread. So yesterday i decided to add the Manual Transmission Fluid and i bought only one from the Honda dealer since i had some already. Not paying attention, i first added one quart of the one i had from about 2 months ago, then one quart of one i had from 3 weeks ago. Then i noticed the texture was way different... the old one was like engine oil and the new one was thinner and has a pinkish hue to it. Thats when i picked up the one i just bought and noticed that it the last 2 i bought had a different label alltogether...
Do you think i should drain my trans and full up with the new one only? Is mixing the old mtf and the new mtf wise/safe? Any help will be appreciated, thanks.

I've been using the green bottled stuff in my new trans, no problems for the last 4,000 miles. I do plan on dropping it this coming weekend, IF you want I could report back in with details...

Hmm, I never noticed they changed the fluid...
Might be why at the end of last season when I put new honda mtf in the racecar I began to get grinds around 8500-9000 rpms. Flushed it out and put redline in and didnt have anymore issues.

which redline did you use
and to the OP, if you mix the old formula with the newer one, it will explode

I would just go drain the mix and refill it with the new formula. Its an ITR dont be cheap.

I would either flush it out and put new MTF fluid in it or run GM Synchromesh fluid. I 've ran the GM fluid in all my ITR gearboxes and have loved every minute of the grind-free driving.
Some people call it Jesus fluid for it's ability to cure small grinds, which it did for me in my old ITR.

the new Honda MTF has friction modified additives compared to the old MTF.
strange bottles you have though...the ones we have here are all black with a black honda label...

All the Honda MTF I've used has looked like the bottle pictured on the left. I got a bottle once labeled for for extended service, but the bottle otherwise looked the same and noted it was compatible with the regular MTF.

I bought some last month and it actually had an Acura label on it. The dealership said a lot of Acura customers were complaining that the parts they order had Honda packing
