b18c CRX fuel problem??
Hey guys,
Reaching out for some help here. I got my car moving a few days ago and i've found a little problem.
When i'm normally driving it is fine, just that when I speed up and get passed like 5200 RPM (typically when vtec kicks in) I seem to experience something strange. It doesn't happen RIGHT when i hit vtec but rather when i come back to a stop.. and try and move, my car is jumping like mad. Its like it's miss-firing. When I pull over look under the hood, everything is good, plugs are in, wires are sparking just sounds like it's miss firing.
After I turn it off for a few seconds and then turn it back on, it's perfectly fine. Until i decide to gun it again and then I'd have to repeat the process.
My friends think it may be because of the stock fuel pump for a CRX Si that's the culprit, another thinks it's the fuel filter. Just wondering what you guys think it could be.
If it IS the fuel pump, what fuel pump should I switch it to? With a stock GSR one fit in my tank?
Thanks
-Jon

not pitching any out any solutions or possible causes...but IF you need a fuel pump, which i doubt since i have the same set up and the stock one worked fine for me...but IF you need one, walbro 255 is the way to go
Hrrmm
Just a question since you have the same set up.
There's a plug that i did not plug in which is for the oil pressure sensor that SHOULD be right below the vtec solinoid. The reason i say SHOULD is because the JDM engines don't have this plug for some reason. Could this cause the struggling??

any CEL codes?
how do the spark plugs and wires look, how's the timing , fuse, and grounds?

Maybe, IDK. Anyway I think you rewire this in some fashion, sorry I forget how. try searching around a bit , or maybe someone will chime in.

Naww no codes showing up at all.
I have the stock ITR spark plugs but i have OEM honda replacements. I just wanted to burn off the crap gas i had in the tank before I put the good stuff in. Timing should be good everything was lined up. I suppose i could change the spark plug wires.
I'll double check all the wires and fuses again. This is going to be fun....
Ohh there's another way to rewire it... Hmmm i'll search that up. Thanks Grog

Well it was 91 Octane in there with octane booster. Just wanted to clean out the engine a bit by driving it around for a while so i know for sure that nothing but 91 octane is pushing through my lines. Filled up after i ran into this problem and havn't tried since... FYI i have a brand new gas tank so inside is sparkling clean so ya.

i doubt it, like i said, same said set up, which means my car doesn't have it plugged in either and im not having this problem...i never paid attention to what my oil pressure gauge is hooked up to, but i'll look into it and tell you if it'll help any
did you start having this problem after you gassed up? me and a friend both experienced similar issues and found out that we both got bad gas the same day at the same station. once we burned it off and gassed up some place else, the car ran fine. also, have you tried dry gas?
awesome.. thanks B18C1vic. I'll go gas up today and see what happens after that. I'm planning on gassing up today, take it for a rip around my street and see if i get any engine codes or whatnot.
Zrickety i'll keep you guys updated after i gas up today. Hopefully you're right and it is just crappy gas. BTW. What is dry gas??

Snap i just thought of something. Vtec is controlled by the ecu. The ECU needs readings from sensors. More specifically engine oil pressure, engine temperature, vehicle speed, engine speed and throttle position. I have all but one. Engine speed. Which I ASSUME it's from the spedometer. Since I still have the stock CRX cluster, it runs on cable but the B18C runs on electronic.
Does this make sense to anyone?
B18C1vic, what cluster did you use? EG? EK?

thats fine you can run either electric vss or cable vss.
or Are you saying that the Vss is not connected to the cluster?

yaa it's not connected grog. i'm not sure but the vss is typically located on the tranny case at the back if i'm not mistaken. The vss on the ITR engine is elec, and while the USDM CRX is run by cable. I just assumed that I couldn't use that.

Yeah its right behind the starter.
You can use your old D series vss, or an older B-series vss (from a DA maybe). If you want to use the eletric vss you need a new cluster than uses the electric signal like the jdm sir cluster or any other newer cluster.

I think the bottom line is that you need a D/B-series mechanical VSS (or an electric cluster) to get your vtec to engage. Once you get a vss and get a good look at it then you can look for it on the tranny behind the starter.
but if you need pics try searching.
