Default Oh ****, my air filter came off my aem cai.

I was doing a once over on my car and I noticed my filter was not connected to my cai. Its a gsr cai on a b18c1 eg. It never fit perfect and when I put my skunk2 IM on the space was really tight. I have no idea how long its been offI just know it was on on about 8 weeks ago when I put my IM on. How much damage could I have done? Is there any wayto tell becides tearing the motor down?Anything I sucked up would have been taken to he combustion chamber, right? Would it have burned off? What about running a octane boost to clean out any depoits on the chamber? Any advice?

I wouldnt be too worried to tell you the truth.

I would think that anything that made it past the intake valves probably made their way out the exhaust valves.

And as long as you had your fender liner on and intact (no holes cut into it) it is pretty tough for stuff to get in AND get sucked up.

If you can, get one of those lighted microscope probes that you can stick through each spark plug hole and look at the cylinder walls. Then disocnnect your cat...any big stuff should have collected there.

But I highly doubt you will find any major damage.

When you suck in particulates of dirt and crud, the only thing you really have to worry about is the stuff contaminating your rings and scoring the cylinder walls. It's probably no big deal though. Not particularly healthy for the engine, but hey, the car's engine will eventually wear out anyways.
