Default Simple oil light question

93 prelude v-tec. Never had an issue before what so ever. I went out this morning started the car and the oil light stayed on solid. I revved it up to about 3500. Light still stayed on solid, didn't even flicker a little bit. My question is when you turn on your key switch and don't start it does the oil pressure light ussually stay lit, because mine does? This would tell me that it is a bad sensor if the oil light should turn off in a few seconds after the key switch is on!

Any help appreciated
Thanks,
Rob

just searched and found somewhere that the oil does stay on. That is until you start it and then it should go off. if it was the oil pump would it have shown signs that it was about to go out, like flickering or flashing?

Congrats this is going to be either really easy or really hard to fix.

Really easy, it needs oil

Really hard your oil pump is dead

Your probally leaking oil

Whats your oil pressure

no oil leaks what so ever, put 10,000 miles on it since I bought the motor from hmotorsonline. The motor is extremely clean! oil is to the top dot on the oil stick. I don't have an oil pressure gauge at this time. I must add 1 minor detail. Me a my brother changed the oil filter and he accidently left the old seal and added the new seal on top by accident. It sprayed oil on my exhaust and a little got on the oil pressure sensor plug, fortunately i caught it within minutes. That was about 3 months ago.

It could be that you oil pressure switch has gone bad on you. Or maybe that it has come unpluged from the harness.

It is plugged in but there is some oil on it. Do oil pumps really go out so suddenly?

Yea, they can. How much oil is on it? Because all a oil pressure switch is diaphram. The higher the oil pressure the farther it pushes on the diaphram. . . If and when the diaphram breaks it can cause an oil leak and oil light.

Your oil pressure sensor could be bad. My light came on while on the highway...sinking feeling, immediately pulled over and shut down. Plenty of oil and no leaks, got my hands on a new sensor and no more oil light.

does VTEC still work? if it does, it is just a bad sensor, as VTEC won't work without enough oil pressure.

I beleive the oil on the sensor/switch is from improper placement of the oil filter as I listed above. I'm thinking that maybe the sensor is ruined because it is covered in oil.

thanks for all your input guys, I really appreciate it.
I'll let you know if it was a sensor or not.
