Yes, an EX/Si transmission will be a good investment (assuming you are going to keep the d-series).

OK here is the big question should i stay with a d series motor or are the single cams not worth the effort or should i switch to a B series instead

It depends on your power goals and the use of the car.

Read the FAQ.

Goodman do things rite the first time. But yeathose trannys are horribly slow. Dont those things do like 90 in second! Freind had one on an old a6 motor and was soooo slow.

I think you will get flamed more for typing "v-tech" than he will for asking about the trial period...

The trial period lasts 5 days.

I/H/E will give a little bit more power, but mostly just noise. If you're going to go that route, get a cheap CAI with a K&N filter, an eBay header, generic exhaust shop 2.25" crush bent piping, and a decent muffler (like an Apexi WS2).

the dx trani and the ex trani arnt that much diff... i have a freind wit a 92 hatchback with a stock d15 b7 and its running a bout 12.5 sec on a quarter mile and he swaped the trani for the ex trani... not much diff. the only diff was 3rd and 4th gear
