Default Gas gauge question

The gas gauge in my 97 hb moves around a lot as i drive. When i hit the gas, it lowers a noticeable amount, and then raises back up when cruising or stopped. What causes this and is there anything i can do about it?

happened to my 93 hatch.

it happens to almost everyone with a older civic.

(i forgot what its called), but inside your gas tank, theres a "thingy" that floats up when you fill up at a gas station. that "thingy" most likely broke. so therefore, whenever you hit the gas hard or make a hard corner like on a onramp, the gas sloshes around and makes the guage drop to near empty.

Thats weird, mine doesnt do that when i hit the gas. The only time that my gas gauge moves alot is around sharp turns or long turns. Like dilly said, that "thing" inside ur gas tank is probibly broken. I wouldnt bother replacing it though, as long as you know how much gas u have in ur car.
