I have a d16y8 and the transmission thats in there is a econemy trans and it it has super long gears so it is defeting the purpose of having cams and a intake manifold so wat trans will fit its a 98 honda civic ex and the code on the trans is s-40 or p-40 so wat trans will fit and have a shorter gears please help me!!!

 

Haha hate to say it, but you already have the better sohc tranny. And even the best sohc tranny still has super long gears compared to a bseries b16/gsr. I thought I had a dx/cx tranny in my eg hatch when I bought it because the gears were so long till upon checking the tag, I have an S40 haha.

 

wat is the s-40 trans and wat can i do so i can get low end power...

 

mine was out of a 98 civic ex d16y8.

 

also my d16y8 is vtech so does that change any thing...

 

so wat do u think i should do then keep the trans cause the guy that put cams in said i need a shorter gear ratio trans he said mine is like a 4.1 gear ratio and i need somthing that is like 4.6 gear ratio so it reves up quicker wat you think...

 

I'm not too sure about that. You may want to seek a second opinion. I'm more familiar with the OBD1 generation trannys. (These trannys are available to you as well). My VX tranny said "S20", and my JDM D15B LSD tranny says "S20", but I assure you, the gear ratios and final drive are VERY different.

 

I am very cofussed i just want to figure this **** out and get a tran with a higher gear ratio...
