Default Painting candy = D Questions

I had a '99 Accord CH9 SiR Wagon seen below

It's undergoing a complete rebuild, a few dents here and there, been hit a good three or four time on separate occasions in car parks and it was repaired cheaply and it started to show, combined with scratched paint on the skirts and many many many stone chips upfront...

I'm going with a Candy red, what I'm hoping to achieve is a fairly deep red with a highly contrasting vibrant red without it having look pinkish

Speaking to the local customs shop there was a Ford TX5 I was doing wiring on for them, it had 4 coats of candy from memory and I think maybe increasing it to 6 to get a deeper red...

Now my only REAL concert is the shop uses Mipa or Mipar paints can't remember which... Is this a quality paint? Or would I be better off going with something else? Also since it's going through a complete color change, are there any special things that need or should be done to ensure a top notch finish? I just don't want them cutting corners and telling me that it's mint

Now since the car is a pearl white now and were going red, the interior will be entirely stripped out and dusted a red to suit and then the engine bay painted candy red and once the motor is reinstalled the outside will be painted

Any experiences and or advice on candy would be very much appreciated...
Also there are talks of bases like Apple and stuff? How does this apply to the overall color of the finished product?

Sorry if the questions seem odd or noobish but being very mechanically minded the down side is that I have not a clue when it comes to body and paint

Thanks ^_^

In case anyone is wondering;
- Rebuilding motor as there is a definite knock which occurs under heavy load at low RPM (very very very infrequent and it's metal to metal contact)
- Hoping to squeeze just a little bit more power at the top end from it at the same time
- Being a Honda I drove it hard at the track and the tiptronic gearbox is a touch sluggish and lost its super quick and changes used to be unnoticeable
- Moderate stereo system
- Suspension is a little tired so coil and all new bushings on all four corners
- Replacing all interior clips as there are some rattles here and there

Hoping to have it drive, handle and look better than new

if your looking for kandy, you need to get ahold af a House of Kolor catalog from a paint supplier before you decide. their are way more shades, bases and kandys than you think. dont limit yourself to the 1st one you saw.

There are so many companies that produce candy paints but HOK's seem to be the purest and they have the best UV inhibitor in the clears...which mean that the candy won't fade as bad, which it will slightly over time. Now if you want a very deep red then there are a couple trains of though on it. You could either go with a metallic gold for the base which will give the red a kind of flop in colours from a really deep red to a vibrant red in some lights, or you could do a pearl white base then layer the kandy over top of that.

I would recomend HOK, or beyond that PPG or ALSA. I have never heard of mipa but I am from north america. Also make sure it's not water based, as the pigments they are using in the new water based paints are not true anolyne dyes but are instead cut down basecoat tinters which means instead of the candy being truly transparent they are slightly opaque. The difference being that a true candy will get darker the more you put on, and will end up black if you layer enough on, whereas the opaque paint will only get as dark as the basecoat tinters were and then stop.

Also I would recomend you be at the shop when they spray the candy, that way they can keep layering it on until you get the colour you want, not what they had in mind.

Oh and jsut in case anyone was curious, I do a lot of custom paint( among other things, like air ride, stereos, LED lighting conversions blah blah blah), mostly bike and helmets and what not, but some vehicles as well...so I have a fair amount of background in it.

I haven't had time to check out the colors as yet; been a touch too busy

The painted did request that I come and watch the car be painted as so that I would gain greater appreciation for the finished product rather than just turning the key and driving out

I'll pop into a HOK outlet in the coming weeks to see if I can make up my mind
