manke sure you remove ALL of the old head gasket material and then put on your new head gasket. when bolting the head up start with the middle 2 bolts and go in this pattern.

make sure you use the correct torque sequence.

9 3 1 5 7
8 6 2 4 10

then make sure you use the correct torque specs

1st step: (bolts 1-10) 14ft/lbs
2nd step: (bolts 1-10) 36ft/lbs
3rd step (bolts 1-10) 49ft/lbs
4th step (bolts 1-2) 49ft/lbs

last time I checked the sequence went like this:

. 9 5 1 3 7
10 6 2 4 8

This came out of a Honda service manual.

I didn't think 49ft/lbs was the correct torque spec for the head bolts.

it doesn't matter as long as you start in the middle and work your way out. different manuals will tell you different ways. that is just the way i always torqued my head down and never had any problems. but thanks for the input.
