Well I wanted to give it a shot of replacing my own quarter panel. To my surprise it camed out okay to me. I used a flanging tool so the quarter could be flush against the body. I was a little scare at first but I was determine to do this. I just want to say all u need is time and the right tool.
This is when i first cut out the old rust.

I sprayed it with weld thru primer. For some reason the welds didn't seem to stick to it.

I finally finish tacking the quarter. My welder sucks big time. The welds didn't come out the way i wanted it to.

I'll update when i finish putting body filler on it. I just picked up evercoat metal filler and evercoat lightweight body filler.

did you just tack it on, and mudding over that??
You should have pre-drilled the patch panel around the border and spot welded it onto the car....

you are right about pre drilling holes around the border. I learn alot of this and would have done it differently. The welder is no working properly, i tried different setting and so forth. I think i'm not getting a good ground or something..

ur welds probly didnt stick because u need to weld on bare metal. if u dont they will pop off in a yr or so. and after u weld grind if down. then use a wire wheel to clean out all the burn inside the welds. then fiber glass. followed by easy sand filler putty

If thats the case what is the weld tru primer for? The welders don't look pretty but there are good.

weld through primer is used to seal the weld inbetween 2 panels. Lets say you have a spot weld you are doing. You have the original panel you put the weld through on after you clean it of paint. Then on the new panel were you punched the hole out and put it over the original panel, you clean the original metal of the weld through inside the hole. So when you weld the surounding area seals the spot you welded. I hope that made sence. Don't know how else do describe it.
Also you should clen the new metal you put on as well. Helps make a cleaner weld.

It is bare to bare but when sandwich 2 pieces of bare metal together you still have that bare metal. That is what the weld through is for. It reacts with the weld heat and seals all the metal around the weld and the unwelded metal around the weld.

not fancy spray ****...weld through primer is to prevent corrosion aka rust...the reason you apply weld through primer on the surface your going to weld to is so that you have an anti-corrosion coat inbetween the two surfaces, generally you put on places that you cant get to once welded, in this case the quarter panel. Like I said before, to have done this right, you should have pre-drilled the patch around the perimeter, coat the lip that you flanged with weld-through primer, tack the patch into place and spot weld in where you drilled, grind down and get rid of burn marks, and apply body filler
those little tacks that you put all around it arent going to hold up for very long, and more likely will end up rusting anyway

Thanks for all the advice to everyone. I'm about about to do the other side in a couple of days. I will make sure i drill holes in the panel this time around.

I was scared like anyone else to do quarter panels. If I can do this anyone can do it. I never did body work before and i'm happy with the outcome.
Here is an update. I drill holes this time and it worked out way better.

This is the final outcome.

Passenger needs more detail.

I would of cut all the rust out since rust will always come back even if you spray rust remover/sealer.
I did this before too, but replaced everything from the door and back.
looking good though
