Hi Guys,

Not sure if this is the right place for this but I've been googling all over the place for info on the B18C4 engine, and, it's limited.

I live in the UK and have an MB6 UK civic (1998).

I'm looking to increase the performance on this car, but I'm not sure where to start with this engine as information on this version of the B18C seems limited. I've done a search on the site, but couldn't find the answers atm.

So I just thought I would stop by and ask some advice

The car seems to pull ok atm, but nothing to write home about, it only has 117ft lb as I understand which I really would like to increase. So I'm really looking at increasing the torque more over HP. IF anyone has any info that would help it would be really appreciated

The car it self is pretty mint, high mileage now but still runs well. The only modifications I have made are the brakes (front and rear), suspension / bushes and struts, the rims and intake. Looks nice and simple / tidy the way I want it for my family car Just need a little extra ooomph for the daily commute.

Car has cost in total with the extras atm a little over 6k USD, not sure what that compares like with prices over there for Civic's but over here it's pretty good for a mint aero.

If I'm not mistaken the B18C4/B18C6 is the equivalent of our B18C5 over here in North America. The specs should be the same or very close.

Incorrect. Their B18C4 is equivalent to our B18C1 (GSR) and their B18C6 is equivalent to our B18C5 (ITR).

first off... thats a sick civic. i love the looks of it, we don't get anything like it here in america.

your b18c4 is gonna be like a b18c1 or gsr in america, japan its an sir-g motor. it'll have a bit more torque to but in my opinion its not enough to warrant the swap. you've already got a b16 in there. if you want extra oomph carrying around the weight of that heavy chassis have you considered a turbo?

a good turbo set up with a competent tune on a conservative amount of boost would definately give you that extra oomph. say a good setup with 7-10lbs of boost would give you far more power than the engine swap, likely cost less, and you wouldn't need to build up the motor you already have to run that little boost.

Thanks for the comments guys, so if I look for GSR tuning guides I shouldn't go far wrong then.

I have thought of forced induction, but I'm not after a massive gain, I would be happy with another 20-30ft lb.

This lump is spec'd as having 117ft lb and 170hp, so it's the torque I really want to ramp up.

Thanks, did a spot of de-badging yesterday, removed all the rear apart from the 'AERODECK' badge, looks a lot smoother.

Also took the grill apart and did the suround in a flat black finish, and the centre H badge in a darker titanium colour.

That's it for the looks of it, wan't to keep it smooth, on with some engine work now

 

you should lower and tint it

 

for another 20-30 ft. lbs of torque...

i cant really think of anything that will give you that (to the wheels atleast) besides forced induction...since 20-30 pounds of torque to the wheels in a honda motor is kind of a lot.


take it from me lol, i got a b16 boosted at 7psi and i still dont make **** for torque.

 

Hmm, I had heard of the UK integra R lumps making around 130-140ft lb, as mine's only got around 117 I was hoping to try and bump it up.

My only gripe about this motor is it makes good peak power, but it's getting there.

problem is, the americans on this site are looking at SAE corrected figures for aemrica, you guys still have PS and bhp right?
