Default 225/50/15s on a civic?

i've been told this will fit into the wheel well with no problems but i tested fitted them a week ago and found out the fronts stick out about 1/2 inch!! here are the specs:

94 civic coupe w/ITR 5 lug conversion
15x7 SSR +43
225/50/15 Victors

the rears tuck in fine, just the fronts. i was already planning on at least rolling in the fender but this to me looks like i will have to cut it now instead. so i'm asking for opinions. should i:

a) sell the 225s and just go 215s?
or
b) keep the 225s, cut the fender and raise the car to the point where it wont rub on cornering?

i would've loved to try out the 225s but maybe i was unrealistic in my assumptions. any comments/opinions would be greatly appreciated

EDIT: forgot to mention, i will be both auto-x and doing full track events, mostly lapping days until i get used to the car

bombino from hybrid had 225/50/15's for a while on his eg. rubbed like a ****. went on track in it with katman, every turn was just "bzzzzzzz" from the tires rubbing. not sure how much he modified his fenders. hit him up and ask what he did about it

Maybe he just let the tires "shave" themselves on the fenders.

I know my ITR rubs with 225/50/15 V700s and 225/45/15 RS303s and that's with 5mm spacers on each side. Stock height, it rubs only at full lock or near full lock.

Leo, you should try rolling the front fenders. Basically remove that sharp edge that goes along the length of the fender.

225/50-15 is a tall tire. i run 225/45-15 hoosier and kumhos ecsta v700's with minor rubbing in the inside front at full lock. the 225/50 is too tall, besides it ruins the final gear ratio..........

On my EG (with stock 4 lug) I am running 225-50-15 Toyo RA1's on 15x7 Rims, with no MAJOR problems(I am not slammed, this is a roadrace setup, about 1.8-2.0" of drop).

38 offset 7" wide rims work really well. It is "out" enough to clear the suspension etc, but"in" enough to clear the fenders with minor massaging, and near stock (corrected)camber setting.

Fender "Massaging" required.
-Roll the front fender lip in and lift the linner up onto the top of the lip
-There is a metal seam (under the plastic fender liner) that hangs down into the front fender opening, this can cut into tire at full compression (even with 450lb/in springs), take a BFH (big F***ing hammer) and persuade the lip up and back towards the motor.
-I tried rolling the rear fender lip and ended up cracking the paint, and trashing the bondo used to "repair" the rust, so I just cut the lip off (flush with the fender) with a cut-off wheel.

If you are running "corrected" camber, fender lip massaging will probably be required, if you are running a race camber setting (lots of neg camber) then only the big seam need be attacked.

-ITR 5 lug conversions because of there increased track width (the ITR hubs push the wheels further out towards the fenders) will nessessitate trimming the fender lips ..... BUT a 15x7 rim with a 38 ofset WILL CLEAR ... one of my race buds uses this exact setup, with Kosei K1 15x7, 38 offset. Kosei K1's, SSR comps, Enkei RP01, Enkei, RCT, Volk ect all can be ordered with a 38 offset.

Cheers

Moose
