Default 400Hp Vitara MiniMe Project CRX

At least we hope to break 400Hp...

Thought we would post up some picture of a CRX project we are working on. It's an A6 Block with TT Rods and Vitara Pistons, with a Y8 Head. This car previously was running a small T25 turbo and was really strong, but as is always the case, we want to get more out of it. So we pulled the old system and are putting together the new setup. We are in the fit up stage right now, just wanted you guys to see the progress as it happens. Here are the pics, feel free to comment and as questoins.

Craig

Short Ram Manifold

WasteGate and Turbo

Downpipe (We plan on re-working the dump tube portion for half rad clearance)

Top shot of component placement

The car

We'll post up some more shots of as we make progress, and hope to post up some 400Hp+ dyno sheets when it's done!

Nice. My goal is to break the 400hp mark also when I switch to e85.

The turbo is one of the Garret units we carry, its a T3/T04E 57 Trim. Garrett says it should easilly support 400Hp on our application. When we asked them to spec a turbo for our car, the goal was to get to 400 with a turbo economical enough to include in a kit, once we get it all put together and dynoed.

you should use your TT fuel injectors, maybe it would convince me to buy them for my build after i see the dyno

That's a great idea! We'll probably use the 550s on this project, as they will easily support the 400Hp target, and will work well with the OBD1 ecu swap we'll be using.

You better rethink that one. 550's will only support 400WHP with 65psi+ base fuel pressure. And if you are running over 25psi of boost, you will max out a walbro 255lph HP pump.

I would get some 750's and run a sane base rail pressure.

I second that. I could see 400whp with those on some fully built b18, but not on a d16. Even with some major porting and a perfect cam, sohc's just aren't efficient enough to do it.

I was sorta hoping that the minime in the title was going to be a d15/z6 combo. I like the idea of making a decent kit out of the results though.

That's where we'll start. Once we max that out, we'll play with some richer stuff.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by HiProfile &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">I second that. </TD></TR></TABLE>

Same deal, we'll start with the 550s, and a decent rail pressure. See where that get's us and then start upping the equipment. Small steps for sure.

Thanks for the questions and coments!

The short ram and downpipe/dumptube are our own products. We chose the short ram to stay away from hood clearance issues, and to demonstrate our own products.

Short Ram D Series Manifolds

Standard Tial 38mm Wastegate.

The engine is an A6/Y8 MiniMe, with our own TT connecting rods, and Vitara pistons. CR is around 8.5:1. Y8 Gasket, and our own mix of ARP headstuds to handle the combination of Y8 Head on an A6 block.

Turbo feed and drain were originally a Stealthmode kit, which uses our flanges and block adapter.

Previously the car used a Johnny Race Car intercooler (RIP JRC), and a DSM BOV. The intercooler is now a back door unit, which mates up beautifully with the turbo outlet. The DSM will be swapped for a Tial BOV.

We'll be doing an OBD1 conversion, and tuning with Hondata at the hands of Joe @ Locash Racing.

My hope is to make it to 400Hp, and then dial it down a bit to keep the car together for a while. I'd like to daily drive it for a while and pit a few kill stories in the books. After that, it's on to something else...

Thanks for the comments and questions!

Craig

looks like a very clean build

fyi at 405whp i was at 86% duty cycle on 750's with a walbro...i do believe that jfk78 was at like 98% with 458whp on 750's those 550's are going to come up real short.

good luck though, 400hp in a crx is going to be a hoot!

Ahh, and the master speaks! Your car is the one of the first widely documented Vitara builds, right? We've reviewed posts about your car quite a bit! Thanks for checking out the thread! Is your car still up and running?

Thanks for the info on the injectors. No disrespect to Cigarbuff and HiProfile intended.

Thanks from Craig

Hey Craig Whats up. Got a question for ya...not to sound like a smart *** (bcuz i am building pretty much the same setup...if you remember) but how do you come ot a 8.5:1 compression ratio with ur rods and vitaras. Dont they sit much lower in the block? Let me know as i am curious bcuz my motor is getting assembled very soon.

Unless you plan to DECK the head like crazy to bring the CR back up?

BTW aboslutely no disrepsect taken Craig...your a straight up guy and I really do believe in your product or else I wouldn't be doing the same build!

LOL Thanks Craig i must say that i did run tunertoys oil feed and return flanges on that car and yes i do beleive that car was the start of the cookie cutter 400hp d-series setups...keeping it simple has its benefits sometimes haha! as for the ol' 4dr...the car is no longer...new owner had a small mishap on a freeway on ramp in the rain....but the motor and turbo kit still live in another chassis that he has built. i have built and tuned no less than a dozen vitara/eagle builds and all have had great success....tried and true like i said before 400hp in a crx its going to make your ******* pucker and put a **** eating grin on your face at the same time nice build, enjoy!

we hit 416whp and 323lb ft on 20 psi with our z6 vitara/eagle combo and are around %85 percent duty cycle on our rc750cc. To bad after the dyno pass the turbo seized

Yea i believe it will be a bit lower. I worked out the math for my straight z6 built and compression is 7.5:1. His will be a bit higher though for sure with that y8 head.
