Default loud dragging sound after bottomed out... need help!

you know what, no matter how good the girls look, never pack more than you're supposed to in your car... anyway i bottomed out my car lovely on a 4-6" drop on an unpaved road going about 40, it was a LOUD kunk... now my car is making a weird sound:

it only happens when the car is in gear around 2K - 4K rpm range.
only happens when neither brake or gas are applied.
the sound is really loud, I can hear it even with my window up. it sounds like it's from midsection of the car, sounds very much like I'm dragging my exhaust pipe or side skirt or something along the concrete... but the sound will go away as soon as I put it in neutral, or gas it a little, or brake a little.

I checked the bottom of the car, can't find a crack on the exhaust yet, but my header is dented in where it makes the 90 degree turn (ouch)...

I'm assuming it's a cracked exhaust pipe or it's the header... can anyone help?

Thanks.

Sounds like you probably blew a gasket. Check the one on the midpipe where it turns down from the header. I have done this several times.

jack the front of the car up or get under it, only way you're going to tell.

Probably dinged up the downpipe.

PHATRIDINDUS: does it make the same sound I described if it's the gasket? I'm hoping it's the gasket, then it should be an easy fix..

Do you have stock exhaust? If not you could have broken off a U bracket, I did that before.

no stock header or exhaust... ss header and greddy evo, but stock cat... i'm really hoping it's the gaskets.

I had this problem several times and it made a similar sound to what you are describing. Should be very easy to fix if that is all it is. Just pop the hood turn on the car and see if you fell air coming from where that gasket is. CAUTION: HOT

If it is a dragging sound, put the car in drive, and pull forward slow. Have someone look underneath the car when you do this, and see if anything is touching. You could have broke an exhaust mount.

Also, what do you possibly need a 4"-6" drop for? Do you mean your car is dropped that much, or the road dropped that much? I hope it is the road.

hehe i'm a little assured now since so many people are mentioning it could be the gasket... i already checked under the car to see if anything's dragging, nothing. Oh yeah i should've phrased it better.. It's not 4-6" drop on my car, it's the drop on the unpaved road... my car's dropped 1 1/2". Also it's a dragging sound it's making, but it's not actually dragging anything because the sound stops if I put it in neutral so it has to do with the exhaust system.

Thanks for all the replies guys!
