Default crusie control troubleshooting

so i took my car to the dealer a little while ago cuz i was gettin nowhere troubleshooting my cruise control problem. after about an hour and a half they guy comes out and says ok we've checked everything under the hood, the fuses, and the switch(didnt say switches so im not sure which he was referring to, i know i shouldve asked) and he said they were at the point that to diagnos any further they would have to take out my dash. do you really have to take out the dash to diagnose the cruise control module?

oh and the problem i was having was it worked, i stopped to get gas, got back in the highway and it never worked again.
