I just got a new axle. I looked at the service manual and it seemed tons easier to replace the whole axle than it was to remove and reinstall the inboard joint so that you can replace the boot. I especially preffered not having to clean out and repack the boot grease.

ya...alot of the time, the whole complete axle and boots arent that much more if buying from a prts store. plus alot less work! you need to pull the axle nut off, pop the lower ball joint, take off the damper fork(holds the shock and spring up). get everything out of the way. your then going to have to pry the inboard joint away from the trans to get it to pop out remember that you might need to lightly tap the end of the axle in to free it from the hub. And you dont need to take the caliper or rotor off to do this

i got bored one day and decided to disassemble an old d-series axle...one the side that goes into the transmission came off pretty easy, but the side the goes into the rotor...whole different story, it took me a vice and a nice big hammer and half an hour...i don't think i would trust using that axle anymore...
